I was reading another message board that I frequent (American baseball) and there was a thread mentioning that a minor-league baseball team hired only the 2nd female General Manager ever. Of course they waxed poetic about her great accomplishment and how she defeated all the 'sexism.' One comment was especially telling: "It is embarassing that there aren't more female executives in the major leagues." The first thought that came to my mind was Well tell me, how many girls or women dream of becoming an executive of a pro-sport that is exclusively male? I've barely met any women that even know how to play baseball, let alone women who want to run a baseball team. This would be like having a woman run an American football team. To be a General Manager of a baseball team, you have to have extensive knowledge of the game. And there are very few women who care enough about baseball to be qualified for the job, not that this gets through their thick skulls. Secondly, in my US History Class, we took a little survey to determine whether we were more liberal or conservative. I'd turned out fairly moderate with conservative leanings, but one of the questions caught my interest: Women and racial minorities should be given preferences in hiring until we achieve true gender and racial equality in the United States, Agree or Disagree. Nice wording there, what is true gender equality anyway? In other words: Since women can't seem to compete on a level playing field, should we continue to give them special treatment masquered as a movement toward equality so that they can be at the same level as men, regardless of their qualifications? It's worded so that if you disagree, you sound racist or sexist.

Hmmm, I can't edit my posts. Anyway, I'd like to add something to the second part of my first post. No one ever defines what 'true' gender equality is, and I don't understand why affirmative action is needed anymore. At least the feminists had an argument for it in the 1970s, but now that there are more women in the workforce, how is AA acheiving equality? It is designed to help minorities, which women are clearly not. Anyone who thinks affirmative action is still needed for women is a female supremacist.

Right. And we need equal numbers of male and female kindegarten teachers too, since all the sexism is keeping men out, right? I think anyone who believes in AA is a chauvanist who believes women or minorities are not competent enough to get a job on their own merits. I certainly would not want a job I am not qualified for, and to have everyone suspicious of how I got the job. How humiliating.

I'm totally against giving people of any gender special support when people of a other gender don't get the same support. Like my signature says: Women should only get equal opportunities not equal outcomes! ~ A man needs a woman like a lion needs a stove. ~ ~ Women deserve only equal opportunity, not equal outcomes. ~ ~ Men are not collectively "guilty" of anything. ~ ~ Never needing to be pregnant is a blessing. ~ ~ Feminist ideology “men have to respect women, but women have no reason to respect men” ~ ~ Everybody makes choices, and nobody should be entitled to special treatment because of those choices. Equal results based on unequal treatment amounts to no kind of equality at all. ~

What I wonder is, don't feminists find AA demeaning and patronizing? I mean, many of them destroyed chivalry because they saw it as demeaning, but isn't affirmative action worse? It is basically saying that women are inferior and can't get a job by their own talents so they need special help.

Exactly, Cowhead418. Feminists contradict themselves, whereby they say women are as capable as men, yet, simultaneously they need big goverment to enforce an undemocratic process (affirmative action ) to ensure an equal outcome. More importantly, it doesn't help women in the long run, as firstly it creates a dependency on govt by women, and secondly it creates an unsustainable "artificial" illusion that these women are as capable as their male competitors. I would liken it to a martial arts gym I once attended, all the males had to "go easy" with the females when sparring. Some of the females became delusional regarding their ability, as a consequence of the males being restrained. This gave the women in question a false belief that they were more capable than reality dictated. Creating "artificial enviroments" as decreed by goverment via an inpractical ideology, creates an imbalance in society whereby the inherent abilities of both genders, are ignored and instead diluted into the big pot of socialism. And the loudspeakers on every street corner continue to bellow "were all the same comrades, were all the same." "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.
