Liberal U.S. politician John Edwards admitted he had an affair and cheated on his cancer-stricken wife after heated denials.

What do you think will be the fallout from the feminists or quasi-feminist women newspaper columnists? Well, they may be conflicted because he's a liberal, but based on prior such scandals involving conservative men, I expect that they will hurl scorn upon him, especially given his wife's condition. "Why can't men keep it in their pants?" will be a common theme.

In contrast, several months ago, when popular U.S. television women
Barabra Walters and Oprah revealed they've had affairs with married men, I heard hardly a word of protest or outrage or indignation. The attitude was almost one of, "isn't that romantic."

You see, scorn for affairs is reserved for men, and especially conservative men. Those evil predators. When women do it, it's just living out a romance novel.

Billy-bob "cigar" Clinton was a good indicator as to how they will handle this....

You're probably right that they'll give him a pass. But a part of me thinks they might rally behind the sick wife. Anyway, when Oprah or Ms. Walters or any other liberal woman has an affair with a married man, it does nothing to hurt their career. For men it is often the kiss of death.

Actually, I read about this last night on feministing and the while there was some Edwards bashing what really disturbed me was stuff like this:

How can we expect to have trustworthy politicians in office if we ignore their violations of trust on something as important as marriage? If he/she would cheat and lie to their husband/wife then they will easily lie to you. I just think people who vote should have honest values.

Judging by the amount of attention bestowed upon the member of the campaign entourage in question, I suspect a select few are fantasizing "DAMN, that could have been ME in the spotlight."
