Good line about chivalry

I saw this line at SYG today:

Chivalry is fatal.

(credit goes to K9)

Simple and short, but the very essence is captured in those three words! A very powerful phrase, in my opinion.

Old chivalry included? Or just the new chivalry?

Re: Good line about chivalry

A very major difference instead of giving respect to just any women we give respect to those who earn it and treat all people with respect for as long as you can or until the person turns adversarial on you.

Re: Good line about chivalry

When I think about chivalry, I think of things like loyalty, honor, valor, justice, mercy, etc.

Is there something wrong with practicing these qualities?

From the "Rules of Modern Chivalry" thread, Chevalier said

I personally don't see anything wrong with this. This is something that I strive to be/ do. At the end, when I look back over my life, will I have been true to myself? Maybe it is just me, but those things are in my blood, it's part of who I am and I could not ignore them.

Well, they can all be fatal

LOL

Seriously, I didn't have Chevalier's definition in mind, I was posting it in a context of the thread the statement was copied from.

Re: Good line about chivalry

Yes Selkie those are all admirable qualities in a person male or female. I think chivalry would have had a better chance had women had this code drilled into them they way it was drilled into me and many of my predecesors. Instead most women were told to take advantage of it as they were told they were too weak to uphold it. But nowadays I think that if both sexes were taught the code from a young age there would not be so many problems with false allegations and PAS and divorce in general. The lack of personal honor amongst people leads to distrust and conflict If women were to take up chivalrous behavior we wouldn't have misandry. And if men adhered to it then we could not be held down and we would already be one big cohesive union of men openly opposing these laws that are biased against men or never let it get this far. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe I just wish people would act honorably to each other.

Yip, good rule of thumb..

I think all folk are entitled to "basic respect", they can earn more or lose it..

Re: Good line about chivalry

Yep, every man who has ever been chivalrous died, or will soon. The good that men do seldom does them any good. However, we all die anyway. Life is fatal.

It behoves us all to follow the lead of Chevalier who at least pays attention to trying to define a code of conduct for himself in these dark times. A code of some sort, a benign code, is essential.

Try, rather than abandon the effort.

Say not the Struggle Naught Availeth

SAY not the struggle naught availeth,
The labour and the wounds are vain,
The enemy faints not, nor faileth,
And as things have been they remain.

If hopes were dupes, fears may be liars;
It may be, in yon smoke conceal'd,
Your comrades chase e'en now the fliers,
And, but for you, possess the field.

For while the tired waves, vainly breaking,
Seem here no painful inch to gain,
Far back, through creeks and inlets making,
Comes silent, flooding in, the Main.

And not by eastern windows only,
When daylight comes, comes in the light;
In front the sun climbs slow, how slowly!
But westward, look, the land is bright!

By Arthur Hugh Clough

Quote:
The good that men do seldom does them any good.
According to good ol' Will Shakespoke, "The evil men do lives after them (feminist revision of history) and the good is oft interrred with their bones (contrived feminist amnesia)."
Marcus Antonius may, or may not, have said something along those lines but brilliant liitle Will was more interested in theatre. In the history of the English-speaking peoples, he has no equal. Tongue-in-cheek propaganda about seriously-meant, split-level propaganda implies a depth of understanding that was supposedly not available to the uneducated masses. But he still entertained them in his own lifetime, even if it was just in a little wood & thatch theatre. By the time we began to understand what he understood, he was long-dead.

Quote:
A code of some sort, a benign code, is essential.
A common code for men would be the best thing since sliced-bread. But informed western men are as suspicious as it's possible to be. The informed are few and far between.
IMHO (it's late and I'm probably over-reaching) a good Hollywierd movie with beautiful special effects can entertain Mr Average so well, that he conviently forgets about his disenfranchised brothers.

We're fighting a 'distraction' attack. Powerful people know how to play the game. Mark Anthony, the arch-manipulator must be smiling at our antics from his grave.

The traditional male weapons in the sex war are non-cooperation and flight. The traditional female weapon is celebration of paternity and male responsibility. If women now choose to define this as patriarchal oppression, they are throwing away their best trick. Feminism, in dismantling patriarchy, is simply reviving the underlying greater natural freedom of men. - Geoff Dench 1998 (edited)
