    Gender Roles

What gender roles do you support?

And if men do have to protect women should women be obedient and essentially pamper their husband (and place their needs, goals, dreams second to the man's)? This seems like the only fair set up.

If men had to protect women I say women should be submissive to men.
I said submissive not weak or pathetic!

I don't let society define me (my whole person) by gender. I define myself.

I do behave in some ways that society might view as masculine and some that society might view as feminine- and I don't really care to analyze it all that much because I'm fine with who I am.

"Civilization can only revive when there shall come into being in a number of individuals a new tone of mind, independent of the prevalent one among the crowds, and in opposition to it- a tone of mind which will gradually win influence over the collective one, and in the end determine its character. Only an ethical movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical comes into existence only in individuals."

But I bet those masculine characteristics aren't the positive ones right?

With all due repect MM, you always seem to leave out or overlook love as a factor in relationships. As the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung once summarized it; where there is love, there is no will to power. Even Mahatma Gandhi described love as ever yielding, ever giving. I'm referring to love, not lust and not 'you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours'.
Roles have been dissected like bugs under the microscope. They are not that cold and sterile.

I don't know, MM. I said that *society* might view some of my behaviors as masculine or feminine, but personally, my observation has been that society is pretty judgmental about stuff like that. Far more so than I am. What one might see as *masculine* behavior that I'm displaying, I just think of as behavior...neither masculine or feminine, in most cases.

Assigning feminine or masculine labels to behaviors that all of us exhibit from time to time, sure does cause a lot of problems. I don't need those problems. I don't honestly care what people think.

I suppose when I was younger I cared.

I feel emotionally and psychologically freer now and I like that.

Quite a mixture of ideas in there, MM.

If men have to..... why should they, as individual men, protect any woman but the one that they love or father? It used to be that a man, generally, subscribed to the view that he should protect all woman in society, even to the cost of his life. Men were roundly scorned for their sacrifice. Buggered if I will go back for a second lot of pokes in the eye. I have only one left.

So that's one role out the window.

Should a woman be 'obediant'? Obediant to some half-wit? Many men are half-wits - just look at a family Court Judge or a Lawyer or the bog-standard mangina. Now, if YOU were a woman, would you want to 'obey' a fuckwit?

    There goes another role.

Dreams, goals and needs, be 'second' to a man's? Would YOU place your needs second to another man's?

Gordon Bennett. you do ask for some strange things from people.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. “

...sometimes I feel that way too, Zuberi.
