The justice ministry said the ruling was about dishonesty, not religion...
The court granted the man's request for an annulment after ruling that he had been tricked into a marriage.
His partner's virginity was a determining factor in his decision to wed her, it ruled. Feminists angered ....
-------------------------------------------------
What I think about this case:
This Muslim man was legally well advised - in his lawsuit it seems there are no religious statements, but addressing the civil court only, claiming fraud of marriage = result: nullification of marriage.
Otherwise, in case of divorce, he would have to pay alimony to this woman, who was lying to him about her past.
This Muslim man was asking her about her virginity (why should a Catholic man not ask the same?) and said it was important for him and the woman was answering with a lie tricking him into marriage.
Result: Marriage contract = void
Dishonesty cannot be remain outside of law. Otherwise it will be an open invitation for fraud - to lie about all and everything without any consequences.
You cannot remain a successfully married couple over years, if you sign even your marriage contract based on lies.Yohan's

Oh, but the Law TRIES.Dishonesty cannot be remain outside of law. Otherwise it will be an open invitation for fraud - to lie about all and everything without any consequences.
And the Judge ruled for Truth in the land of Derrida. Astonishing.
Truth - tried hard.
Was Tried.
Hard.
Derided, Derrida-ed,
denied existence;
perjured,
Falsely accused,
she struggled
as she was garrotted.
Died hard.
Soon after that, Justice
suicided off a nearby cliff.
Lover's Leap, a place then
from which many a couple had gazed out,
seeking the broader vista.
Now has Disabled Access.
Was it in despair?
Perhaps sympathy with the others.
No-one saw her silent fall.
Was she pushed?
Who could gain?
Her handmaids will argue for a time and time,
billing Innocence by the hour,
Kept in chains, for gain.

against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. “

It does look like a break in the gender war, but for some time Moslems have been getting things that Chritians can't. If it were another nation I might get more excited. This shows how sad the situation is, but offical "crosses in a jug of urine OK (because it is art), while speaking about the radical Moslem agenda (or the 5 different set of Moslem youths riots in 5 different countries in the last year) is not allowed and must be censored.
The writing on the wall is 2 different rules for religions, as there are 2 different rules for men and women in cultures that say they are for enforced equilty & free speech!!!!

Re: French Justice Ministry: Ruling about dishonesty, not religion
If her being a virgin has anything to do with a man's decision to marry a woman, he's marrying her for the wrong reasons.
He should marry her because he loves her. Her cherry status shouldn't matter. But, I don't agree with her lying to him.

I don't agree with her lying to him either. But what other kinds of lies, I wonder, would be grounds for a divorce?
ah hell...I don't care
I'm single and staying that way

What about this kind of lies? False spouse rape allegation?
-----
I think you misunderstood the situation in this thread, it is NOT about DIVORCE (in this case he would be subject to pay alimony over decades to his lying ex-wife until she dies or remarries), it is about NULLIFICATION of this marriage. This means after the court decision, legally seen this marriage did not take place at all and he is a single man again (and not a divorced man).Yohan's

Different men have different preferences. Why to blame him?
For him it was very important that she is a virgin and she was tricking him into marriage because she was lying to him.
How many women marry men for the wrong reasons? For example because of love going through his wallet? But she should marry him, because she loves him, and his financial status should not matter to her, right?
Everything has to be seen from both sides.Yohan's

Re: French Justice Ministry: Ruling about dishonesty, not religion
Christianity says love your enemies.
This is a very idealistic and a lofty aspiration and it aint easy! The most noble ideals never are. We can see few christians who actually manage to practice this, the sincere ones try.
Muslims are more likely to appeased, no disrespect to them but the
fundamentalist wing are more likely to exact revenge or create a situation, or cause a real storm for anything they perceive as anti-muslim.
So we have spineless liberals who rule over us they cave in to threats of violence. The law abiding and the good get a kick in the teeth.
They get undermined and provoked at every turn. The "art" Tim mentions is an example no riots for crosses in urine. Imagine symbols of any other group treated thus.
The feminists are "angered". They are only happy when men are getting shafted its the nature of the beast.
Its a sobering thought that we are lower as a civilisation than the excesses of Sodom and Gomorrah....What on earth will be our fate?feminism is a disease the Doc is working on a cure. Symptoms include compulsive liar, constant aggression, allergic to logic, often affects women who are fat with short hair and big earings, but can be normal looking.
Reason tablets three taken daily. If the sufferer displays shaming tactics double the dose. Remarkably the illness disappears in disaster zones.

Re: French Justice Ministry: Ruling about dishonesty, not religion
I agree, Danarus, he should marry her because he loves her, but I don't think that's really the point here. Perhaps if she had been honest about not being a virgin he would have married her anyway because he loves her. I'd imagine the lie matters a lot more than whether or not she's a virgin. Knowing that your marriage began on a deception is not a way to start a marriage. I think back to the days before I was married and can't imagine much my husband could have told me about his past that would have made me change my mind about marrying him...as long as he was honest. Generally it's the lies that people can't get over, not the mistakes. If her being a virgin has anything to do with a man's decision to marry a woman, he's marrying her for the wrong reasons.
He should marry her because he loves her. Her cherry status shouldn't matter. But, I don't agree with her lying to him."Every noble impulse, every unselfish expression of love; every brave suffering for the right; every surrender of self to something higher than self; every loyalty to an ideal; every unselfish devotion to principle; every helpfulness to humanity; every act of self-control; every fine courage of the soul, undefeated by pretense or policy, but by being, doing, and living of good for the very good’s sake—that is spirituality." -David O. McKay

France to appeal 'fake virgin' annulment

THE French government will appeal a court decision to grant a marriage annulment to a Muslim on the grounds his wife lied about her virginity, after the verdict sparked a public uproar.
Justice Minister Rachida Dati has asked state prosecutors to file an appeal against the ruling handed down in Lille in northern France.
"The annulment of a marriage by the high court in Lille has sparked a heated social debate. This private affair reached beyond the scope of two people and concerns all citizens in our country, particularly women," the justice ministry said.
News of the ruling, which was handed down in April but revealed last week, sparked an uproar among French politicians and women's rights campaigners, but also French Muslim figures.
French Urban Affairs Minister Fadela Amara, a practising Muslim and women's rights activist, called it "a fatwa against women's emancipation".
The man suspected that his new bride, also a Muslim, was not a virgin on their wedding night in July 2006 because the bedsheets were not stained with blood. The woman later admitted to him she had had sex before their marriage.
The court granted the annulment request after ruling the man had been "mistaken about the essential qualities" of his wife-to-be.
Speaking on an internet talk show, Prime Minister Francois Fillon said he would take the case to France's high court of appeal if necessary to prevent creating a legal precedent for annulling a marriage on grounds of virginity.
"This is a very, very sensitive affair, one that shocks a great many French people because it seems to take us back to a time long past," he said.
"I do not wish for people one day to be able to make virginity a constitutional element of marital consent."
"Under these conditions, it is right to ask for a new judgment and, if necessary, to ask the Court of Cassation to issue a ruling to prevent this from setting a legal precedent for all judges in our country."I hate pink ribbons

Preaching Christianity in Muslim areas branded hate crime by UK cops
London, June 2 : Two Christian preachers have been accused of a "hate crime" for handing out gospel leaflets in a Muslim area.
Ministers Arthur Cunningham and Joseph Abraham claimed that a police officer told them to stop and threatened with them with arrest if they did not.
According to The Sun, the pair were handing out leaflets in Birmingham when they started talking to four Asian youths.
Cunningham, 48, and Abraham, 65 - who hold US passports - said a passing Asian PCSO stepped in and became "very aggressive".
They said he accused them of trying to convert Muslim youth and ranted about the Iraq war - telling them they faced being "beaten up" if they returned to the area.
They have demanded an apology and damages from West Midlands Police.
The force, however, maintains that the officer had intervened to defuse a row. --- ANII hate pink ribbons

Re: French Justice Ministry: Ruling about dishonesty, not religion
Interesting that even the French government is openly assisting feminists as legal fees from now on will become very costly.Speaking on an internet talk show, Prime Minister Francois Fillon said he would take the case to France's high court of appeal if necessary to prevent creating a legal precedent for annulling a marriage on grounds of virginity.
We will see what the high court of appeal and maybe later on the Court of Cassation will decide.
Two lower courts already decided and their argument is that it is not about virginity, it is about dishonesty, while signing a marriage contract.
If a higher court rejects that argument, then it means, you might sign a valid marriage contract while purposely and deliberately lying to your future spouse about yourself...not only about virginity, but about your unpaid debits, your time you spent in jail, even about your sexual orientation etc....
My advice for all men: Do not marry...
However Muslim men want to marry and they want to be protected against a lying woman...this is the problem...I cannot blame them for demanding honesty of the future wife while signing the marriage contract.Yohan's
