Read the article, as much as I could with all the pop-up ads in it, and I got the distinct impression they want to make it look as though males commented on their article. To this end, they made up male names and wrote "straw man" comments they can either tear down or support. One male respondent was listed as "sly". Mr. sly was linked to http://profile.typepad.com/slysly77. ?????????
Then there was Pierce ... a real common name if ever there was one (and a manly man, I'm sure).
I also noticed that women address males that differ with their written point of view with the remark,"DID YOU READ THE ARTICLE?"
(Feminist Code Speak for "You have no business saying that!").

My way of dealing with immigration in the US:
1)No more amnesty. If you come to the US illegally, you enter an all life ban of ever becoming a resident or citizen.
2)Dump the bases in Japan, South Korea and Germany and other useless bases and put the troops on the border.
3)Deport any illegal who seeks medical attention and makes the costs of medical stuff for others higher and any illegal caught doing a felony or infraction.
4)Confiscate the business of someone who hires illegals.
5)Stop awarding citizenship to the kids of illegals who have them in the US, unless one of the parents is American and gets the custody of the child. If he doesn't want to marry the woman, deport her.

Desirable, but politically impossible

Otis, legal immigration isn't the problem because the legal immigrants actually contribute to society through taxes and so on. Before you can immigrate legally in the US, you have to kind of show you will do something there.

And it's not politically impossible. Nothing is. lol

More people means higher rents. This is bad for people like me who don't want to work. The cheapest I can rent a room with utilities for is 250 bucks a month. I can get food for free but medicine and miscellenous expenses are another 100 bucks a month. That means that if I was making 5 dollars an hour after taxes I would have to work nearly 20 hours a week to earn a living. I don't want to work anymore than 10 hours a week so I need for property values to decline to a fifth of what they currently are. How is that going to happen if more people keep coming here?

getting a constitutional amendment ending birthright citizenship is impossible, I promise you.

Otis, you can interpret that passage of the Constitution only for US citizens. The war on Iraq is unconstitutional for instance. Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security aren't constitutional. And some taxes that you have aren't too.

Otis, if productivity goes down, your wage will too. I'm not really in mood to argue this shit though.

Immigration is not the problem, I'm for no controls on immigration. The problem is entirely to do with why the immigrants are coming in the first place. I live in the UK and many know that we're a sift touch with government handouts so they come to not work and live off the taxpayer. If we had no welfare state it would not be a problem at all.

As RV said, productivity determines wage rates. Anything you do to hinder the flow of capital and labour to the places where they will be most productive makes everybody poorer. People coming into the UK or the US to work is good for the economy. Also, illegal immigrants do not pay taxes which gives them a greater margin with which to undercut domestic workers. If all immigration was legal you wouldn't have that problem.

The problem is not immigration it is the welfare state, get rid of that and most of the immigrants wont even bother coming in the first place.

Don't forget the 'push' factor.

If you were born in Somalia or Romania () or Zimbabwe wouldn't you want to go somewhere else?

And what's the betting you wouldn't want to go to Mexico.

I find it interesting how some folk declare a love of freedom then on the other hand instantly decide only a select few deserve to be free.. And support the state powers to kill them..
