Female politicians highlight motherhood

One reason, political analysts suggest, is electoral strategy: More than half of the electorate is female, and some of the most sought-after voters are mothers. Those voters tend toward moderate views.

"Swing women tend to be married and moms," said Democratic pollster Celinda Lake, who noted that talking about being a mother "creates a connection to married women."

In fairness, I think quite a few familial politicians of both sexes tend to showcase their families. It bugs me when male politicians do it as well. One's family (or lack thereof) should be irrelevant when it comes to voting or not voting for someone.

I'm not surprised that many "sought after" voters (read: easily influenced people who decide on who they vote for at the last minute and base their vote largely on hogwash like personality and charisma) are women. Sorry for generalizing, but women seem do make important decisions based on their feelings much too often.
