Dumped newborn, woman gets house arrest

A woman who put her newborn baby boy in a Richmond, B.C., dumpster has been sentenced to six months house arrest.

Courtney Dawn Taylor, 22, also must perform 50 hours community service and will be on probation for two years, a provincial court judge ruled Monday.

Taylor gave birth to the infant Jan. 31, 2010.

Acting on a tip, dozens of RCMP officers spent three days in early February 2010 searching through the Burns Bog landfill south of Vancouver before recovering the body of the newborn.

Taylor pleaded guilty in December to a charge of disposing of a body.

Police had recommended a charge of infanticide, but investigators were never able to determine the cause of the child's death.

The Crown had called for an 18-month jail sentence for the Richmond woman.

Whoever decide not to pursue infanticide is a waste of human cells. If her child randomly stopped breathing, she should have immediately called the ambulance to see if they could save it. Any jury would have put her behind bars.

This woman is probably a murderer let loose.

Sadly, this crap goes on all the time, usually the Woman get psychological counseling and a tongue lashing, perhaps some community service.

I don't see the problem here, we all know children belong to their mother ONLY. If she wants to discard the baby like a purse, why not let her? After all, if she flat out murdered her baby before birth...that would be legal.
