Dogs and cats

Great Britain is known worldwide as a nation of dog lovers. Dogs are notoriously right-of-centre creatures, of course; loyal, patriotic, implacably pro-hunting, trained to the gun, wedded to the idea of the monogamous heterosexual middle-class family unit, deeply suspicious to the point of violence of all aliens.

Dogs, even the most stupid dalmatian or red setter understand such half-forgotten terms as obedience, duty and discipline. Tell them to chase a stick and they will do so, without questioning why or contacting a lawyer and filing a complaint to a tribunal. Tell them to shut up and sit down and they will do so, with a chastened expression. They love their masters with a deep, abiding and trusting reliability.
Until quite recently they were the country's favourite pet but about 10 years ago they were usurped by the sinister and poisonous cats. There are now many more of these insinuating, manipulative, indolent left-liberal, feminist beasts in Britain: ask a cat to chase a stick and it will yawn, urinate on your carpet and then sit on the roof of the shed for the rest of the day in a catatonic stupor. Decadent and idle, they rub themselves up against your leg in a sexually incontinent manner and then claw you. They are urban creatures, symbolic of an atomised and insular society dominated by hedonistic consumerism and tied to grooming themselves into oblivion. A society which has lost its way.
(With thanks and acknowlegements to An Englishman).

I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it.
But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up.
I am outnumbered.
But...
YOU don't just make a difference,
you make THE difference.

By patriotic, do they mean patriotic or jingoistic?

Re: Dogs and cats

I used to have cats, I've had 4 in my entire life. When a friend told me about her dog, I just fell in love with it, and got my own just like her dog. Best £650 I've ever spent in my life. Cats are fucking shit, simple fuckin' as. They do NOTHING useful at all

This is my little girl, she turned 2 last month. She goes everywhere with me, and loves me. Dogs love you no matter what, I prefer the company of a dog over most people.

Re: Dogs and cats

The implication in these posts is quite clear.

The DOG is likened to the MALE of a species. A dog is masculine with all the attributes of the male - reliability, dependability, obedience and accountability. The dog can be trained to order, and will readily accept such orders. A dog will always show affection no matter what and what you see with a dog is what you get. A wag of the tail and a lick on the nose is virtually guaranteed, again no matter what. The eyes of a dog are warm and loving. The Dog is the Chinese YANG - strong, positive, bright and masculine.

The CAT is likened to the FEMALE of a spcies. A cat is feminine with all the attributes of the female - unreliability, disobedience and unaccountability. The cat can never be trained to order - a cat will seek only to satisfy its own needs and conveniences, and is interested only in its own comfort and personal space. A cat will only show affection if it suits the moment and temperament and only if it feels like it. What you see with the cat is never really what it seems and the mood of the cat can never be truly assessed at any given time. A cat can hiss and spit. The eyes of the cat can display spite and venom with a hint of evil. The Cat is the Chinese YIN - negative, dark and feminine.

Check any good dictionary to see the original Chinese definitions of YANG and YIN. Well, those dictionaries that haven't been tampered with by any feminist gestapo group out on a censorship crusade that is.

I have had a number (2) cats in my time and five dogs. Dogs are by far the best. (i've had two wives as well).

Mind you, my 2 cats were splendid. Jean Luc the jet black, 13 kilo mini- jaguar, a philosopher. Lean, loping, a deep thinker. Wouldn't hurt a fly let alone a mouse. He'd much rather engage them in conversation. And Maximillian my Maine Coon, a nasty viscious beast rescued from the Vet's needle due to its filthy temper. I 'turned' it into a passable friend. (you did still have to keep a good weather-eye out as you passed, mind you - otherwise he'd take it out for you).

Most people don't know this MAUS, but the Maine Coon isn't a cat/racoon cross from Maine in the USA (where they are said to come from) but actually from Maine in France. They were introduced into North America by Marie Antoinette. She had a pair. When it was clear that she was in deep shit, she organised her escape from France to the Colonies. The cats arrived Ok ; she didn't.

(Edit: I should have added, the cats went on ahead; not her's though; she lost hers.)

(Edit2. How about: the cats went ahead in a basket; her head stayed home in another basket)

Interesting that you know this history Percy..you are a gentleman and a scholar.

Another notable French cat lover from just before this period was of course Cardinal Richelieu...the story goes that he was given two cats on the day he was ordained cardinal...male and female.

He ordered his servants to treat them and their offspring as if they were orphaned children adopted in his household.

The population apparently stabilized at about seventy cats...give or take a few...there is a portrait of the cardinal with his riot of cats in his study.

He said that it was by observing the behaviour of these creatures that he learned how to rule France.

Need I say more?

Re: Dogs and cats

I'm sure my avatar speaks quite loudly all on it's own, BUT, just in case there's any doubt, I'm definitely a dog person. I like animals in general, especially horses, but dogs are in a class all their own and if you're going to have a dog, no dog compares with the German Shepherd Dog.

I heard a funny, yet oh so appropriate saying once: Dogs have owners...cats have staff.

Speaking of GSDs and cats, here's a favorite picture of mine...

Re: Dogs and cats

Feminist_Scum, you have a gorgeous dog. She is adorable. What is her name?

Hmmm, cats and dogs eh? Masculine and feminine eh?

I rescued a bird today at work from the cat. This one lived; the last one didn't.

It is a bombay and they act like a dog in that they fetch and return.

http://www.moggies.co.uk/breeds/bombay.html

I too have a black cat. She was wild and slowly has become tame yet you still can't put her on your lap and pat her.

But dogs and horses are my favourite pets. I have had 2 horses, both Mares and 4 dogs all bitches.

Also chickens, roosters, wild boar, birds, fish and rabbits.

I was hoping to have sheep and cows when I moved to NZ but the councils wouldn't let me. Something about the boundaries when you live in towns and cities.
