In Ireland, the political party Fianna Fail which is likely to enter Government after post-election negotiations on Thursday, is proposinng to allow divorced individuals to re-apply for the
"first time buyers grant". This is a tax-relief scheme offered to first time buyers which exempts them from paying Stamp Duty on houses worth up to €317,500. The changes to allow the grant to apply to divorcees are being rushed through.
This decision by an Irish political party is bad because (i) it's attempting to prop up a lagging, overheating property market and (ii) it is an incentive to divorce (which is currently at about 15% - lots of room for "growth" say the Government and consumer/retail interests...)
This is a decision from the Fianna Fail party which is historically a traditional, non-liberal party. However, there is no such thing as a party - whether it purports to be right, left or centre - that defends men's rights. Once again, money interests and economics come to women's rescue.

Rich divorcees to get first-time buyers' boost

DIVORCED people will be among the main beneficiaries of forthcoming stamp duty changes.
Under Fianna Fail's proposal to abolish stamp duty for first-time buyers, divorcees will also be able to take advantage of it because they revert to the status of first time buyers.
It means that owners of mult-million euro homes will be able to sell up and then buy a new house at any price, free of stamp duty.
As a result of the FF plan, which is being rushed through the Dail, it will apply to those whose divorce has finalised.
