I wonder why it caught on so well. They say a lot of it is the courts and that FDR stacked them in favor of his political agenda, which was supposed to have been commie-friendly. Then factions on the right try to stop what they call "activist judges," out to change the constitution and they are labeled "religious fanatics" or "nuts." This years Congressional campaign saw Democratic leader Nancy Pellosi calling President Bush "incompetent and dangerous" or in more common parlance, "nuts!" For his part he said, "she wants to raise taxes," which in fact is true. Of course, among her party members that isn't unique, but I thought it was a reasonable campaign issue. Whereas, I felt that her comments were uncivilized, immoral and sleazy; in a word, barbaric. Folks used to say, that's just politics, but I don't buy that anymore.

Re: Culture Of Men Bad?
Then there's things like this. Bear in mind that patriotism and pride in one's homeland is not only a human right, but it is an overwhelmingly male trait, that is before our "re-education." I watched the 1920 film version of "The Last of The Mohicans" and the idea that Men should refuse to take a pledge to their country and show humility before God was incomprehensible to the English or French. Then to watch the 1950's version of "Horatio Hornblower" with Gregory Peck playing the captain, to think that a man such as that would have a generation follow him that burned the flag, balked at giving their own lives and taking the lives of others for their homeland seems unbelievable. Of course, when I read the stories behind these films it makes the events of today seem surreal.
"Students at Calif. College ban Pledge of Allegiance

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Student leaders at a California college have touched off a furor by banning the Pledge of Allegiance at their meetings, saying they see no reason to publicly swear loyalty to God and the U.S. government.
The move by Orange Coast College student trustees, the latest clash over patriotism and religion in American schools, has infuriated some of their classmates -- prompting one young woman to loudly recite the pledge in front of the board on Wednesday night in defiance of the rule.
"America is the one thing I'm passionate about and I can't let them take that away from me," 18-year-old political science major Christine Zoldos told Reuters.
"The fact that they have enough power to ban one of the most valued traditions in America is just horrible," Zoldos said, adding she would attend every board meeting to salute the flag.
The move was lead by three recently elected student trustees, who ran for office wearing revolutionary-style berets and said they do not believe in publicly swearing an oath to the American flag and government at their school. One student trustee voted against the measure, which does not apply to other student groups or campus meetings.
The ban follows a 2002 ruling by a federal appeals court in San Francisco that said forcing school children to recite the pledge was unconstitutional because of the phrase "under God." The U.S. Supreme Court struck down the ruling on procedural grounds but left the door open for another challenge.
"That ('under God') part is sort of offensive to me," student trustee Jason Bell, who proposed the ban, told Reuters. "I am an atheist and a socialist, and if you know your history, you know that 'under God' was inserted during the McCarthy era and was directly designed to destroy my ideology."
Bell said the ban largely came about because the trustees didn't want to publicly vow loyalty to the American government before their meetings. "Loyalty ought to be something the government earns through performance, not through reciting a pledge," he said.
Martha Parham, a spokeswoman for the Coast Community College District, said her office had no standing on the student board and took no position on the flag salute ban.
"If their personal belief is that they don't want to say the Pledge of Allegiance, the district certainly isn't going to dictate what they do," she said.
More than 28,000 students attend the community college, located in conservative Orange County, California, south of Los Angeles.""The coward dies a thousand deaths

Hmmmm... tricky!
Personally, I would sing 'God save the Queen' with gusto but singing 'God save Tony Blair' would be an obvious joke.
Students like to play political games and politicians like to play patriot games. They sometimes rebound.

Its not all about being macho and porking the stock, but, thats what winds up the poodles and saddle-breasted, waxed-chinned landwhales best so "let em have it!"..
They like to lie pinned on their backs in the "five bar gate" position just as much as the prettier sluts..
And, they will not abort the sprogs of a bloke who is prepared to go to jail just on the basis of his courtship ritual!
Rip their heads off, and fill their cavernous apetures with the love of the lord!
Do it what those voices from the angels tell you must be done!
Remember, what a gentleman does, is correct!

Re: Culture Of Men Bad?
Patriotism is probably more of a male trait because it is a motivational tool to gear men men up to fight in a war; and men probably have more of a reason to fight in a war than women.
When an invading army enters the country, the women may be spared but the men will probably be killed off or perhaps separated from the women.
Also, I think women are more likely to switch sides to whoever is likely to win, to put themselves in a favourable position with the potential victor.

Re: Culture Of Men Bad?
See a couple of attitudes here seem "new" to me. One is that adults aren't supposed to guide children. The traditional male role in Western Culture is for the father to set the boundaries and requirements for their children's instruction. Educators seem to have taken that role away from fathers and given it to themselves and apparently when that didn't work, to the kids. That of course, is retarded
The other "new" attitude is that women are supposed to be whores for whoever will take care of them. My impression is that our female ancestors often willingly took their own lives to prevent the enemy from "taking" them."The coward dies a thousand deaths
the valiant do die but once."

Re: Culture Of Men Bad?
That is very true. The lates example would be Sudan - Darfur (tho' there's no invading army, "just" rebels vs. government). Not to mention other cases like Bosnia, Kosovo, ancient Greece, etc. When an invading army enters the country, the women may be spared but the men will probably be killed off or perhaps separated from the women.S E R V I C E W I T H A S M I L E

You know, the story, "The Last of The Mohicans," is loosely based on the death of Jane McCrea. She was scalped by Indians. Her gruesome death, was used to stir brave men to action, in The Revolutionary War.
