Changing gears
This place is going to start having some positive changes.
We're going to make a newsletter, and I want you to offer ideas about it's content and format. One ground rule - nothing negative. Only good news, or at the very least 'interesting news' - none of this "I'm a victim too" malarkey.
We'll also be focusing on more positive relationships with other websites - rather than affording traffic to feminist hate campaigns, like now.com or feministing.com.
I've just talked with our good member, rohara, who's agreed to help out with admin functions and liaise with some of his external interests and their related websites, in order to bring us more positive and reinforcing information. All this "I'm too upset to write a letter or email to my MP/congressman or local company." is no use to anyone - including yourselves.
I'll be revising the rules in the near future - I'm fed up people taking the piss. Repeat offenders will be getting the boot from now on.
So, pull ya socks up and get positive!

Re: Changing gears
You're showing some serious leadership here, Karl. My hat is off to you. I hope that this new more positive and more action-based approach reaps some substantial benefits, not only for this Web site but also for the cause as a whole.

Someone I know had a similar Idea not too long ago.

Re: Changing gears
Right.. well this thread is a kind of ... I've had a chat with a number of members, yourself included - and this thread is a sort of 'icing on the cake' of those chats. It's all very well talking about it - now is the time to do it. So this thread is to make a public announcement of the intentions behind those chats. This is the 'notice' to the public

Re: Changing gears
In order to effectuate change positively we must constantly evolve. We musn't become ironically immersed in a stagnant argument that mirrors what we oppose. Let's use our innate robustness, inventiveness and humour to express our position most uniquely.
As for Rohara, he'll be a worthy and welcome addition to the admin team.Last edited by Celtic Druid; 28th-November-2010 at 05:11 PM.

Re: Changing gears
Good idea Marx. I am right behind any move to widen the scope and reach of AM and get some additional communication going.
Re the comment above about news-reports. - Ithink it is valuable to repost the otherwise obscured reports of female miscreants. John Dias' Misandry Review does a great job of putting a huge range of reports into our inboxes and Pierce Harlan's FRS reports add thremendously to our understanding, but the more that we can show up what is going on in the world, the better.
There are hundreds of articles being written that go unnoticed. Our trawling to find them and give them some prominence here spreads their message - which is OUR message.
A newsletter may well bring in those members who otherwse just drop by and drift off. So many people come here, see a post or two and go away again. A reminder once a month will help us grow more cohesively.
I just hope it does not dissappear amid the peculiarities of AM's communications though. - Right this moment I have a stream of about 40 AM posts arriving in my inbox that I do not really want. They are from threads I have simply looked at or posted on and I seem to get automatically notified of any additions. This clogs up my inbox. I simply delete them without reading most. When in need of a drink to fill the soul

Suggestions for regular format/articles:
Headline: this must be something that mainstream media stands a chance of picking up.
What does 'masculine' mean (one aspect each edition).
Support groups on men or families (highlighting one each edition).
'How does it sound like this' (taking something from the news and reversing the gender to help show how sexist the statement/article was).
The gender peace: counterpoint to 'the gender war' (showing one common misogynist and one common misandrist statement and showing the error in them).
The Hero (an article on a man that the vast majority of both genders can admire).
Know your rights: I know you don't want anything negative but this could still be positive, possibly even contributed by a solicitor who gets publicity (one aspect that specifically or mostly affects men, from child-rearing through education to work-place).
Other regular newsletter ideas
Activist Diary - "Don't just grumble - do something"
Letters to the editor (always good for space filling!)
Letters to help (one or two suggested letters to be sent - typically to a local politician - in support of some topical issue, draft content and how to find who to send it to)Last edited by Marx; 13th-March-2011 at 01:26 PM. Reason: Merged
