That's something I'm still figuring out as I go along. Mostly, I just ignore. A lot of what these people are looking for is validation and attention so not giving it to them is generally the best route to take.

That said, on Feministing we post emails we get from time to time (on Anti-Feminist Mailbag posts) not only to show folks the kind of hate that gets directed your way when you do public feminist work, but also to make fun of them and take some of their power away.

In other words, she ignores the ones that would incriminate her if she answered and she HAND PICKS the ones she can ridicule for her anti-feminist mailbag.

I'm of several minds of it. I understand the safety concerns behind DV shelters being woman-only. But the problem is that there are VERY few shelters for men, who are also victims - so I think that needs to change. Another issue is that shelters with woman-only policies often turn away women with older male children (not ALL places, this is just in my experience in NYC as a former ER advocate for DV and rape survivors), as well as transgender victims. So it's problematic to be sure.
