Re: Another man takes his own life

Er, I am pretty sure it is felt.

Every time the yellow ribbons come out a round a house, the locals find out why.

And yes, sadly our local fathers are killing themselves and we all DO feel the pain. These things don't leave the minds of people no more than a fireman forgets a dead body in a car accident.

It hurts the community like anything.

But, ... and this is what the men have stepped forward to report.

You can't expect men to wallow and need counselling like the women do.

You need to let them action. They have their own way of doing things. If you ask them to put a big weekend 'wake' (hope you understand that word) they will.

You just need to understand men are more about action than words.

    But you do know that!

okay....whats a big weekend 'wake' and what does feckin mean? Replacement of fuckin? Damn language barrier...
The men's and fathers' movement needs to make sure it never sees females as the enemy,
but only misandry--whether from females or from males.
If not, we'll become like the bigoted feminists that this movement was formed to oppose.

Feckless A wake is a typically Irish drunken send off of the dead a knees up after someone dies. True story many years ago in a village the did this at the grave side two old fellas got plastered fell in the grave and broke their necks so they just buried them on the spot too,

The suicide rate here is just phenomenal and the media are very quiet about it. But the media are a joke and I must remember irrelevant.

You must be really feeling it.

Is there not some women to help? Is there not a barmaid you could interest in an event? Someone to rally the guys, maybe? Or just put a few suggestions out there and follow up?

Sometimes, women have a way of snapping men out of gloomy situations.

I don't mean this as a put down of men but just as a way women can compliment. The suicide rate will only increase if nothing is done.

God or good will help you. I am 100% sure.

It can go either way Julie. Many guys here have suffered misery at the hands of wives, girlfriends etc. Women have no monopoly on compassion or empathy.

I agree that a daughter's smile can be inspirational, even life-saving. But an ex-wife's vindictiveness can be monstrous.

Much of the discussion in forums like this is about how modern women no longer understand or WANT to understand men's problems. Existential depression arises when we see no hope of meaningful inclusion in public or private life.

Er, I am pretty sure it is felt.

In Bidgend, South Wales, an inordinate number of young people have inexplicably killed themselves over recent months - as if in some kind of epidemic of self destruction. The reasons for all this have not been fully explained at all. As you would expect the majority have been males. But on the occasion of a female suicide much more publicity was given to it in the media and you can bet her picture appeared in papers lilke the Daily Torygraph (Telegraph for those outside the UK). Much like the very, very, very rare occasions when a female member of the UK Forces was killed (mostly by accident btw) in the hell of the crapshite wastelands of Iraq.....the woman's picure is on all the front pages and GMTV goes crazy with interviews with everyone living in her home locality back here in the UK.

Every time the yellow ribbons come out a round a house, the locals find out why.

Britain isn't into the whole yellow ribbons thingy.

And yes, sadly our local fathers are killing themselves and we all DO feel the pain.

Of course it's painful - yet another loss of a wallet and supplier of funds.

It hurts the community like anything.

Of course we can''t expect men to wallow and need counselling like women do. That would mean adopting a means of stress relief wouldn't it, and contributing to the possibilty of extending the male life span therefore reducing the chances of a female benefitting from his hard won assets.

Yellow ribbon is put around areas where a death occurs. It is a way for the police to keep the public away from the scene.

Re: Another man takes his own life

    Ledburian,

We have different ways of seeing things because we do different things in the community.

When I started on this I collecting signatures for a walk a man did over a long distance to protest for fathers.

I know how the community thinks and feels. They couldn't sign fast enough. I had people putting their hand up in a crowd. "Don't forget me", they said.

This will snowball once it gets going.
