Adensdad on "feminism"
I've held off discussing this so far because I wanted to see how many of you would be intelligent enough to understand what I'm saying on this matter. I've determined that a great many of you are not going to understand this no matter how well I state it so I may as well just say it. It needs to be said because the group-think mentality when it comes to "feminism" is just off and the only way to attack groupthink is for disagreeing people to say what they think.
So even though the masco-mccarthyists in this site are going to chant "feminist! feminist! burn him" over and over and likely make this thread full of as much intelligent discussion as an episode of Jerry Springer I'm just going to go ahead and say what I think about "feminism." Just know in advance that if you engage in masco-mccarthyism here and call me a "feminist" I'm not going to respond because it will destroy the intelligence value of the discussion.
My central argument: there is no such thing as a feminist.
From webster's dictionary...
http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/definition/feminist
Feminist: (Adj) Of or relating to or advocating equal rights for women; "feminist critique". (n) A supporter of feminism.
That's what "feminism" means. If you think it means something else, you're simply wrong. A feminist is someone who advocates for equal rights "for women." A person who supports greater rights for women than men is not a feminist, they are a misanderist. The term "feminist" and "misanderist" are not interchangable. You cannot base the definition of feminist on the behavior of people who erroneously call themselves feminists. Dictionaries give us defnitions of words.
Likewise anyone who calls themselves a feminist and advocates that women should have more rights than men is labeling themselves incorrectly. Everyone who claims to be a feminist is not a feminist according to websters and every other dictionary I've seen.
Feminists are not bad (yes, you heard me), they just don't exist. Before I get to that let me discuss issues where women are treated unequally to men. There are issues in society where women do not have equal rights.
To name a few...
In most places women have to wear shirts and men do not.
Most christian religions do not allow women to enter the priesthood.
Intelligent women still have to work harder to gain respect for their intelligence than intelligent men.
In Islamic societies women are owned by their husbands and not allowed the same social rights. They have to cover their faces. They cannot socialize with men other than their husbands. Many of these women are not given an option in who they marry. Many of these women are beaten by their husbands. Young girls are held down and forceably given female circumcsions. A good percentage of the worlds population live in these societies under this brutal sexist social system. No thinking person should tolerate this.
Now I want the masco-mccarthyists to read this next part of my post verrrrry slowly. Read it more than once if you're having trouble.
Although feminists and masculinists are good things (just as angels are good things), there are no such thing as feminists or masculinists. The terms contradict themselves. One cannot advocate for equality for one gender. Are you following me? The terms are single word oxymorons. Saying "I advocate for gender equality only when it comes to women," is like saying "I like peaches and apples the same, but I like peaches a little more."
Also (read this just as slowly) Advocating for "equality for women" cannot mean that you want to create "inequality for men." That is like saying "I like peaches and apples the same, which means I don't like peaches as much as apples."
2+2 =/= 3+1 is an impossiblity just as 2+2 = 3+2 is an impossibility.
I play a lot of chess and can think five moves ahead most of the time. I know the common counter argument I'm going to get here, so let me beat you to it...
"Equal rights" refers specifically to 'rights' not "forcing two things to be the same." "Equality" refers specifically to human "rights" which are a list of social established permissions. If I paint the peach red I am not treating the peach equally to the apple. If I only painted the peach and I did not paint the apple then my treatment of the apple and the peach were unequal. Equal treatment would imply that I painted both fruits or I painted neither fruit. Genetically altering the peach so it tastes the same as the apple would also not be equal treatment.
Despite their different tastes and different appearances I can enjoy and treat apples and peaches equally. Their being different from one another does not prevent me from doing that.
So considering this, let's again look at the definition of feminism...
Okay, now we've discussed the characteristics of the definition and parts of the definition including the word "equal rights" lets look at another word in that definition, the word "advocate."Feminist: (Adj) Of or relating to or advocating equal rights for women
Advocate
Many MRAs argue that because men's rights are in a worse state than women's rights and that enough people already support women's rights, they don't need to focus on them. This is perfectly fine.(v)Advocate: to plead, speak or argue in favor of.
You can advocate for something more than something else without advocating that thing is superior to the other thing. The definition of advocate does not specify frequency, it specifies existance. In other words the definition of advocate is not "to argue something more often than other things." It simply discusses whether or not you argue for it. If you argue for equal treatment for women and equal treatment for men ever, you are not a misanderist or a mysogynist. "Misanderist" and "misogynist" are synonyms, not antonyms. Apply the same logic to "feminist" and "masculinist" to "misanderist" and "mysogynist" and you'll come to this same conclusion. If you are mysogynistic you are also misanderistic and vice versa.
So we should be saying these two things...
1.)Feminists and masculinists do not exist.
2.)Everyone who is misanderistic is also mysogynistic and vice versa.Last edited by AdensDad; 22nd-February-2009 at 05:59 PM.

Re: Adensdad on "feminism"
Thanks for this intensely condescending post. It demonstrats really well how full of yourself you are.
For the record though, actions speak louder than words.
Feminism can be defined however you want - but the actions of the group speak far, far louder than any claims.►My blog / Your Blog

I don't think I'm being condescending to the entire site, just the masco-mccarthyists.

Re: Adensdad on "feminism"
I didn't say you were condescending to the entire site... Nonetheless, you then go on...
See, from what I read here - your choice of words indicates you have an incredibly high opinion of yourself, as if you're in a position to determine folks' level of intelligence, and if it meets your criteria.
Really, get down off your high horse before you fall down and hurt yourself.►My blog / Your Blog

Re: Adensdad on "feminism"
It isn't in a dictionary yet because it's a new word I've come up with in the past week. Misandry isn't in most dictionaries either. But not being in a dictionary does not mean a concept does not exist. "feminist" is in the dictionary and feminists do not exist.
Just be a good boy and call people who are against men's rights "misanderists."

I stopped there simply because I know I'm not intelligent to understand it.
Actually, I stopped there simply because I knew it was going to be an incredibly condescending piece not worthy of my time and vastly unhelpful to our cause.

Re: Adensdad on "feminism"
Well, now you're just being mean. And right after I gave a good rating to your yahoo video. Oh well.
1.) I don't always spell things too well. People make mistakes.
2.) I never claimed to be a genius.
Masculo-mccarthyist would be someone who accuses anyone who disagrees with their worldview as being a "feminist." The term describes this as being similar to mccarthyism where mccarthy accused everyone who disagreed with him of being a communist. If you don't go around accusing everyone who disagrees with you of being a "feminist," then none of my comments were directed at you.

Re: Adensdad on "feminism"
There's being an asshole - and then there's being a pompous, stuck up idiot.
The other day, I was talking to my daughter. Now, for the most part, she's a very down to Earth girl. Her mother is, imho, a bit stuck up her own arse too - like your good self. I believe her attitude occasionally reflects in either of our daughters' attitudes.
As my daughter and I talked, she was telling me about a lad show took a shining to her. She told me how she dealt with a situation by telling him she was already with someone else. She finished off with something to the effect of "He'll never get over me."
I couldn't believe at only 10yrs old, she has this mentality. I was quite took back by it.
So, I began explaining to her that just because some people around her might think that certain guys will "never get over" her (whoever), they will have a fall - and it might just hurt.
I gave mention to my ex-wife. We recently talked and in an effort to protect myself, I told her "I've got a new girl friend".
Now my ex-wife thought I would never 'get over her' - and she admitted that learning I had a new relationship had hurt her.
I put this to my daughter, explaining that it wasn't my fault my ex-wife was hurt - she set herself up to get hurt, because she thought I was incapable of moving on... She thought I'd always be there, in the background, waiting open-armed for her return.
And I destroyed that inflated self-image... not that I was aware of that self-image she had when I told her. So it's not my fault she got hurt - it's her own fault.
I used this to demonstrate to my daughter that people can set themselves to hurt themselves.
I think you're in a similar situation. You seem to legitimately believe you are of a superior intellect... to the point of making new words out of thin-air.
All I'm saying, is watch the fall buddy. You'll bruise your ass.►My blog / Your Blog
