Any one who knows Northern Quebec will know rust is a major issue. When I bought this car a couple of weeks ago, I never thought it was so rusted out. The car drives like a dream, the engine is so smooth I actually put a cigarette on the engine running and it stayed upright.

But WOW, the rust I found. Here are a few pictures of the cancer involved and me attempting to remedy some of it. I will post more pictures as I go along. Remember all, I am a auto motive technician, not a body technician. So laughter is allowed. I am having fun with this. I hope to make a nice ride out of this cheaply paid for car. SO far I have invested about 200$ canadian, in various sheet metal, welding products and primer and such. The pictures of the parts on plywood are what is left of the muffler support and battery tray which are integral to the trunk floor. All has been redone.

Here we see the left rear corner of the car redone. I blew through some of the factory sheet metal, so thin it was after removing the rust. Sealer was used for these holes before wrapping it with the bumper. I found that roof sealer worked great for the small holes and dried very thick and strong for the area it was for. I do not recommend roof sealer for anywhere else on a car but undercarriage and trunk area.

Here is the battery compartment all welded together. This whole area was rotted through. The battery was literally hanging by the poles. This week I will redo the left rear quarter panel in my spare time. I will shape this out of a 3 by 4 foot sheet of metal, 24 guage thickness. Hard to form but well worth it for durability. The picture we see here is after a bit of rust removal, I will have to remove more than I thought.SSPX0224.jpg I will also polish the headlight lenses. Will post back with more pictures when these area are done. Some may wonder why I am posting this. I do this to give courage to others, it can be done. It is most satisfying to fix up a car and save it from the salvage yard. It also helps to promote less waste. A cleaner planet is a legacy we should espouse.
