Transition House says funds needed to stop violence
Helen Morrison says government should fund anger management educationHelen Morrison, the executive director of the Cape Breton Transition House in Sydney, says there's a need for more government funding to fight domestic abuse.
Morrison made the comment after a young Cape Breton youth was convicted yesterday of second-degree murder for killing his teenaged girlfriend.
Morrison said it is time for the Nova Scotia government to provide more money to educate young people about anger management and violence against women.
"As a community we are reaching out to our government and saying: more resources for the agencies and organizations that work to educate young children and adults about the issues of dating violence and/or violence in general," she said.
"This is something so important we can't turn our backs on it. And we need to do something about it because it's there and it's not going away unless we do something about it."
Morrison said more than 200 people turned out in July for a march urging the government to help fight the problem of domestic volence.
The Nova Scotia government released a domestic violence action plan in December 2010. It included an $800,000 per year pilot program based in Sydney to increase support for victims and rehabilitation services for offenders.
At the time, Morrison pointed out that domestic violence is a big problem in Cape Breton, and that 11 women in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality had died in the previous 10 years.

Re: Transition House says funds needed to stop violence
Actually,after rereading this article.
What she wants is more anger management for men.
I note nothing about anger management for women even though they start most of the argument's.

Re: Transition House says funds needed to stop violence
It's a tough read, but "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess follows this situation to its logical destination: men are marginalized and essentially trained all their lives that they are nothing but inferior hoodlums, and by the time of the story most men are living up to that role with frightening efficiency. The system continues to be so geared toward correcting male behavior that no one sees that all the brainwashing makes it even worse. I'd say we're headed that way fast, when a little boy may not get through the first grade before being labelled for life as a sexual deviant, and always at a woman's uncorroborated insistence.

I would put "Brave New World" up there too, in terms of how thought provoking it is. I think both are hard reads for those not used to expanding their philosophical horizons.
Why would such a youngster in 1st grade get labelled as such? I've heard of such cases, but they're usually teachers/parents overreacting to something as chaste as a schoolyard hug or peck on the cheek.
Has there ever been anything more serious than that?

Re: Transition House says funds needed to stop violence
Holy crap.
That article, and all adults involved in it, have got to be among the most idiotic things I've ever read.
For Gods' sake...didn't just about every child play "doctor" when they had a different sex friend? I know I did...with both a boy AND a girl neighbor/friend.
Myself and the boy were 6, the other girl was 7. We were watching a show about swimming or the beach...something that made us start talking about why boys didn't need bikini tops but girls did. The discussion (if you could call it that) went from "top differences" to "bottom differences". It seemed fine to shed our clothes and look...after all, we were friends! The other girl and I saw that we had some small differences in regards to our "flowers", but the boy was worried about why he had a "mushroom" instead, and wondered if he could have a "flower" someday too.
That's when the older girl informed us that boys had "mushrooms" because when they got older they had to "make it grow" and rub it on the girl's "flower" after kissing and hugging her...and that's how babies were made! We were both quite impressed about how very smart our older friend was, lol.
I suppose I should be glad that none of us told of our innocent showing off of our bodies. Who knows what might have happened? One of our parents might have gotten upset and turned a cute experience into a horrible tragedy!
Very true. You know that if it was too female children it wouldn't have been an issue. I wonder what (if anything) would have occurred if the girl child had been the older one?

Re: Transition House says funds needed to stop violence
Contrary to what some feminists say, male violence is not "acceptable", "sanctioned" or "institutionalized" behavior. The fact that it is even considered criminal is proof of that.

One thing that is noticeable...no comments.
Seems everytime CBC comes up with another feminist 'begging for money" type story, the commenter's pound it into the ground.
