AM Members should make their presence felt

This is a discussion on AM Members should make their presence felt within the Campaigns & News anti misandry forums, part of the Activism Assembly category; It is a legit event and Glen does some fantastic work. Looking back at last year's attendees it seems most ...

It is a legit event and Glen does some fantastic work. Looking back at last year's attendees it seems most people were either pro men's rights or neutral.

The only anti-equality presence i can see from last year's list of attendees is people from the Men's Advice Line. That's an organisation that pretends to help make dv victims when in reality it's a front for gender feminists. Their mindset is that men lie about being dv victims and thy do all they can to try to pretend the vicitms are lying (it's parent organisation's main focus is actually male perpetrators of dv). A really sick organisation. They even somehow get governemtn funding for what they do, therefore taking it away from legitimate organisations trying to help men.

Events like this are never going to be completely free from idiots, keep away from the handful of sexist man-haters and I'm sure you'll have a good experience (hopefully they wont' even turn up this year).

Indeed. Most folk who claim to have suffered DV are probably lying or exasperating, but men are known more for their denial that it has happened to them. DV victim status is valuable and jealously guarded by the protected sex and the power of it in legal battles is so considerable that dirty tricks will indeed be used and this sort of thing where DV victims are regarded as perpetrators of DV is actually very common in misandric circles..

I find it hard to imagine that many "normal" men and organisations not plugging an agenda will want to pay such prices..

Any solicitors from the family law trade or social workers, feminists (hang on, I will rephrase that since most MRA's are in that river in egypt when it comes to their love-hate mouth to nipple relationship they have with the most well-known "equality based" movement) misandrists, going? And how will the organisers stop them from attending?
I started out an optimist, but nothing turned out right..
Then I became a pessimist, but thats a life of shite..
I sucked at being a realist, 'cos folks will always fight..
So now I'm saying "fuck this shit!" I'd rather sleep at night!!

Thanks for that positive feedback John

You are correct that one of the delegates last year was a representative of Men's Advice Line - and he left before the event started. This is a shame as I would have welcomed an debate between this delegate and Dr Louise Dixon (one of the other delegates) - who has authored a highly critical analysis of the "Men's Advice Line's" parent organisation Respect

Those interested in reading Dr Dixon's analysis can download it here: Perpetrator programmes for partner violence: Are they based on ideology or evidence? - Dixon - 2011 - Legal and Criminological Psychology - Wiley Online Library

The other key delegates interested in the field of domestic violence who attended last year were:

Mark Brooks, Chair of The ManKind Initiative - Index
David Eggins, Temper DV - TEMPER! Domestic Violence
Sue Parker Hall: Men Being Treated Badly - YouTube

Some - and hopefully all - of these delegates will be returning this year - and other experts in the field of domestic violence attending for the first time this year will hopefully include:

Dr Nicola Graham-Kevan: The invisible domestic violence

I hope - for those interested - that this provides a fair snapshot of the types of delegate anyone who gets a ticket to the Second National Conference For Men and Boys this November in Brighton & Hove can expect to meet

What is so good about "equality"? A denial of the significant and real differences between men and women cannot achieve anything positive for sexual relations surely?

One of the problems with feminism - and potentially with the political opposition to it - is that the phrases that had some form of the word "equal" in them, have ended up being shortened and grouped under the one word "equality."

Suffragettes called for women to have vote rights equal to men (those that didn't simply ignore that men had no vote and just called for women to have it).

Women's Liberationists called for everyone to have the right to the same pay for equal work and conditions.

Both of those groups called for women and men to be treated equally under the law. Both groups had a lot of female opposition because if was feared to be inevitable that men and women would end up being treated social equals, instead of the two sexes having advantages and disadvantages that matched their average nature and abilities.

That inevitability is now upon us and women as well as men are realising that they don't want homogeneous equality where we pretend there is no difference between what men need and can contribute, and what women need and can contribute. As you say, the sexes are different and we want to be dealt with according to our natures (which is now proven to be natural, not some forced nurturing as social scientists of the 1970s declared).

Our problem is how to move from where we are to where we want to be. We cannot go back, we have to go forward to what society needs. Personally, I think we have to get there via true egalitarianism. Only when we truly have full social and legal equality can society then take a look at things and decide "ok, women have babies so therefore..." and "men cope with work stress better so therefore..." in a way that makes most people happy with the trade-offs.

I've had "equality" hammered at me all my life. It's about time I had some of it.

egalitarianism.. Helping others when you can.. Is indeed a much better way of life for folks who live in social groups.. (which I guess is 99.9999% of humans)..

Trying to enforce the impossible concept of "eekqualitee" is a waste of time completely and anyone who falls for that BS is being mugged big time..

EVery system that tries to enforce such an ideal, relies on oppressive judges to rule and dominate and apply.. The will of the oppressors..

The most offensive thing you can do to a feminist is treat her with FULL equality.
Wife : "I dreamt they were auctioning off dicks. The big ones went for ten dollars and the thick ones went for twenty dollars."
Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

They can - you only need to organise one and that really isn't all that difficult. Pick a town near you, start phoning venues in the area (such as a bar or cafe) and ask them if they are a suitable place for a meeting of up to a dozen people meeting socially who will want to talk (and not shout over background music); when you have found three, visit them to make sure of suitability and then pick one, arrange a date with the venue and promote that venue and date on websites such as this. It really is not difficult.

(I was going to arrange one in the East of England just as soon as I have a car back on the road but then someone else beat me to English ones! I still might arrange one in my part of the country, though.)

I was rather hoping you'd have made it to one of those already in operation, Douglas...
