Re: Activism alert: International Men's Day. November 19th
I've heard background discussion that another organization in New Zealand 'MENZ' is considering organizing a large IMD event separate the above mentioned conference (different regions of NZ). Although MENZ has not officially announced anything I believe they may do so in the weeks or months ahead. Their website is here for anyone who wishes to contact them:

First visit to MENZ.org.nz? introduction page.

Since it's the day for men, men should have an input for their preferences e.g. activities to make it more appealing. It's also a good opportunity to advertise and collect money for MR organizations.

Re: Activism alert: International Men's Day. November 19th
There is a community forum set up for people to cone and throw thier ideas in or to help others dream up thier plans. It's here:
IMD COMMUNITY FORUM
Raising money on the day for your own MR organization is useful, though I'm not sure if people have considered this. Some have raised money for specific issues like men's health but not for thier organizations (too busy being altruistic). It would be worth raising money for legal assistance funds, advertizing or whatever to promote thier organization and its message.
I recommend you go to the forum and make that suggestion as its a good one, as well as any suggestions for what people can do on the day. A lot of organizations are scratching thier heads wondering how they can mark the event.

Do you help manage that website? It already looks good, but I could make it more attractive with some nice graphics for the generic colored areas. Also maybe you should switch to http://www.phpbb.com/ . It's free and perhaps better than what you're currently using.
BTW Dads4Kids is that the parent organization and what's it about? Maybe you should add some more countries to that list such as Mexico, France, Germany, Thailand, Italy, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Portugal, Brazil, Greece, Poland, Switzerland, Austria etc, and like regions such as Latin America, Scandinavia.
Just my two cents.Last edited by Tyrael; 11th-February-2009 at 10:07 PM.

Re: Activism alert: International Men's Day. November 19th
Tyrael,
No is not my website, though I have some contact with the organization and have contributed some of the info out of sheer enthusiasm for the event. So I can't make changes but will pass on the URL to your post above and they can consider your suggestions.
The page is non-profit Dads4Kids initiative; a wing of the Fatherhood Foundation. Although Dads4Kids is a charity which tries to stem the tide of fatherlessness, the IMD website's aims are much broader and serve all men's and boy's interests.
The website organizers would like to have every country represented on the website but first there has to be some history of celebrating IMD which can fill out each web page, or at least some proposed plan of how that country/organization intends to celebrate the occasion in the coming year. To include a page for countries who have no interest is probably pointless. Anyway every country/organization is welcome to join in and will be represented if they make some IMD gesture, no matter how small.
Thats what i understand, but best ask the owner for more info.

Tyrael,
Which country do you live in, and do you celebrate International Men's day there? If yes, how do you mark the day?

September or October would be better months for those of us living above the equator. The end of September would be especially good. Get organizations that are traditionally pro-men to back your efforts, especially those that are international in scope. These vary from country to country, but they are not difficult to determine.

Re: Activism alert: International Men's Day. November 19th
Sports organizations should cooperate and organize special celebratory events during IMD, since sports are popular among males and they encourage cooperation and healthy sportsmanship.
@bababob, do you know how long it took to establish November 19th as the internationally recognized Men's Day? Be glad this has been decided. Your petty request is very unhelpful. Seriously.
You should post here if you have something useful and constructive to say.~ Support Fathers & Families for Father's Rights and Equal Parenting! Go to fathersandfamilies.org ~

Re: Activism alert: International Men's Day. November 19th
Tyrael,
Thanks for your previous post. To be honest Im speechless when people take something like IMD, which has taken years to build and get some consensus about, as an event they can just veto or change the date. IMD will get along fine without these loners, and they will be left in that proverbial "cold" in more ways than one. I hasten to add that no matter which date was set for IMD there would be parts of the globe in thier winter, meaning someone would have to put on a coat. Anyways there's no changing the day now, as its got its own momentum and nobody has that kind of control over the event. We either jump on for the ride, or watch the train go by.
As you say anything constructive is welcome. On that note I have to thank you for the practical suggestion about involving sports clubs, an excellent idea. I'm involved in a football team and a kayaking club, and will do as you suggest and recommend some kind of lunch or other observation.
Cheers,
