What's your favourite food?
I apologise if this thread is too personal or what-ever, I'm really into my food, I love to cook and I'm just inquisitive as to what you people like to eat.
So, any takers?
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Way OT: What's your favourite food?
Basically everything, depends on the day. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but it would do injustice to all the other dishes, if I were to name just one/a few of them.

Oh, and I like to cook too. It's a special kind of pleasure to make a dish yourself and then eat it.

Re: Way OT: What's your favourite food?
I love to cook!
I like to make Cranberry-Walnut Pie (cranberries, chopped walnuts, brown sugar, melted margarine, whole wheat flour, egg replacer)
Spinach Kugel (chopped spinach, bowtie noodles, melted margarine, eggs, onion soup mix, milk)
Bean and Cheese Burritos (refried beans, shredded Mexican flavored cheese, tortillas, enchilada sauce, brown rice, cooked)
Grilled Chicken Breasts with Citrus Sauce (chicken breasts, red peppers, onions, green peppers, Thai citrus sauce)
Lots of other things too, but those are a few recipes my family likes much of the time."I just owe almost everything to my father and it's passionately interesting for me that the things that I learned in a small town, in a very modest home, are just the things that I believe have won the election." ----former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher

Italiaanse bollen. Not sure how to translate that in English. They're round pieces of bread, sliced in two and garnished with salami, cheese, garlic, herbs, vegetables, peppers and other stuff. It's difficult to find a shop that makes them really well.

Re: Way OT: What's your favourite food?
Yup, cooking is an art form.
One of the benefits of living in the far east (and bringing a fair knowledge of European cuisine) is that one can have the best of both worlds. Turkish food seems to bridge the Europe-west Asia gap pretty well, but lacks the oriental spices.
'Favourite' is a hard call, as Rebadow said.
If pushed I'd go for a red Thai chicken curry with Shanghai rice.
If not that hungry, 'kinilaw' a Filipino favourite of raw tuna belly marinaded in spicy vinegar and coconut milk.
If really hungry, bangers & mash (beef sausage and mashed potatoes) with onion gravy.
A mate of mine runs a restaurant called 'Phileas Fogg' (hero of Around the World in Eighty Days) that boasts eighty different dishes from eighty different countries. Getting all the ingredients is a nightmare, but it's worth it.

If it's edible, I'll eat it.

Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

Re: Way OT: What's your favourite food?
I live on a simple diet of fruit, bread, dairy products and vegetables. Occasionally I have some snacks.

Re: Way OT: What's your favourite food?
Yes, we couldn't discriminate against them other foods, could we?
Hmm,
I tend to like very hot foods, like Chili and Curry, I got sick of bland food when I was growing up, maybe this is sort of a rebellion thing, but the hotter the better.
Yan Yan,
I like the sound of that Tuna with spicy vinegar and coconut milk, must give that a try some time.

Mike T:
KINILAW (kee-nee-lao); name derives from 'kini hilaw' - this one is raw.
1/2 pound fresh fish fillet. Cut into bite size cubes
5 cloves of garlic minced
2 pieces siling mahaba chopped (one green chilli and one red looks colourful)
1 medium size yellow, red or white onion sliced into thin rings
1 scallion chopped
3-4 stalks of green onion chopped
1 small piece of ginger root minced
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/3 cup coconut cream
2 medium sized cherry tomatoes chopped
1 sliced suha (substitute a lime)
Grated tabon-tabon (substitute a pinch of nutmeg)
salt and pepper to taste
Marinade the fish 30 minutes to 1 hour. It will turn from pink to white when 'done'.
Enjoy
