No one likes the use of a draft in the military, its more efficient when you have only people that want to be there. However it happens when someone wants to start conquering the world around them (Persian Empire immortal’s were chosen at birth, Napoleon used conscription) or when we are in a war we should or shouldn’t be in and we are short infantry (Vietnam, The Civil War)

However what the draft does to those who don’t get selected is puts them in a state of fear and anxiety. If you read my interview with Paul Nathanson he talked about it as well. Men would do anything they could to distract themselves in order to keep their mind off of the fact they could be pulled out of school to become potential cannon fodder.

Yes, signing up might not be a big deal to the average guy nowadays (it does make you question things but it isn’t as much a threat now, that soon may change) however during wartime it gives every man a mass anxiety attack, its not too hard to see groups of kids freakin out on a daily basis because of this

Anyone ever read the story “the lottery”, you’ve probably heard of it, the classic where they have the lottery and the “winner” dies. Its sort of like that, only the winner is put into a deadly situation.

And why do we do this? To protect the women!!!!

One of my favorite sites is www.antiwar.com. They have a great radio program with all sorts of interesting interviews. One thing that pisses me off, though, is that the host and his guests always talk about the deaths of "women & children" or "women, children & old people" that result from war. What about men? What about the young men who get drafted or duped into fighting the war?
