  • British Airways change Anti-male policy.

I received this reply from BA today:

    Dear Mr Purnell

Thank you for your email. I am sorry that you are unhappy with our response. I understand that you feel disappointed with our policy about seating for unaccompanied minors. Please also accept my sincere apologies for the delay in our response.

I can confirm that all feedback we have received relating to the unaccompanied minor seating policy has been carefully reviewed and has led to us reassessing the policy in full. The new policy for seating unaccompanied minors who travel with British Airways does not make any distinction between male and female passengers.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your feedback. Your business is invaluable to us and we appreciate that you have a choice when it comes to booking your flights. Thank you again for getting in touch and for giving me the opportunity to respond to your concerns.

    Best regards

    Victoria Holland

This is realy outstanding! I would like to see some news articles about it so I will be searching for them. If there are any in the MSM I will post them here. I will also ask that MND post a story about it. We have to report the good news along with the bad.

Rohara, as you'll be asking MND to post about it - could you perhaps post a link from within the article to this thread... our traffic has been down a while and could do with a perk. A positive result like this could be the needed perk!

I'm torn on this. It is a victory, since men are no longer singled out, but without knowing the revised policy we cannot know whether they are simply doing this to placate us men or because they realize the error in their thinking.

The new policy for seating unaccompanied minors who travel with British Airways does not make any distinction between male and female passengers.
What is the new policy? Are now neither men nor women allowed to sit next to an unaccompanied minor? If that is the case, then it shows they still believe men are inherently dangerous and only changed the policy because they were called them on their sexism/misandry. If the new policy is that both men and woman are allowed to sit next to an unaccompanied minor, then that will show they actually believe we are not, as men, dangerous.

Sorry to rain on the parade with my post.
Great work to everyone who brought this matter to light and wrote letters.

Really, i think this could be a step up for ending misandry everywhere, when every male recognizes that they are being discriminated against, misandry will end, after all, you just cant ignore half of the earths population, i eagerly wait for that day, and i wont rest until that day arrives... someday.

Meanwhile, this is great!! they finally changed their sexist policy!

My response is that this is a good outcome and well done to everyone who complained about this.

The policy was cleary ridiculous and the fact that they got the shaft for it and the media made everyone aware of it probably had a lot to do with the change of policy.

I wish you wouldn't keep misrepresenting me outdoors.

The problem with "online activism" is that so few folk partake in the type of online activism that can be effective (as opposed to merely passing round news and twattlefesting) in the movement that it is rare to find examples where a focused effort (such as was made in this case with some excellent correspondances) can, in conjunction with media awareness and wide public outrage, get a good result.

It can be effective, and should be encouraged.

Strange that often it is discouraged!

Would be nice to see some online support for campaigns that are a bit more significant to a far greater number of folk than the few men affected by this policy though..

HH, the policy affacted any man who wished to travel alone - he was automatically assumed to be a paedophile. It wasn't just a handful as you imply. I'm not sure what online activism you have seen been discouraged... I've seen you discouraging it, by suggesting those who engage in it are some kind of homosexuals with a finger-sniffing addiction, but I've not seen online activists try to discourage it! Please elaborate?

Since I have been taking a break from posting here I have only posted in response to posts that demand a reply from me. I will elaborate if you wish, but perhaps you would like to create a new thread to discuss such matters, perhaps you would like to elaborate on a few of your accusations there as well.

Finally British Airways stops discriminating men, with their sexist policy of not allowing men to sit next to children in airplanes, due to their gender.

It took them forever to get some common sense.

Online activism may vary in it's effectiveness, but I've witnessed enough successes over a number of years to know that continued participation is a must. Well done to all who inputed.

British Airways changes 'discriminatory' seating policy for men - Telegraph

Did MND ever get around to posting about this?

What grabs my attention somewhat about the Telegraph's headline, is how they have opted to place the word "discriminatory" within speech-marks, as if to imply somehow that is it isn't "really" discriminatory, but they've called it that because other people think it is...

Not that I have seen. And certainly no mention anywhere of the splendid activism done by Rob York and others here.

That is a shame, however MND isn't alone in ignoring AM members' input on this... others (who we promote here) have also totally ignored Rob & AM.
