Ode to Feminism
Now, not many people know this, but Scotland's favourite Poet, Robbie Burns, had a brother, Bruce, and like so many other Scots, he could see the future.
Bruce was also a bit of a poet and Robbie used to steal many of his best lines.
A recently discovered manuscript, now held at Edinbugger Uniiversity, contains a short verse by Bruce, which seems relevant to us.
Ode to Feminism.
Oh! Wad some Power a giftie gie us,
Tae see oorsel’s as ithers see us.
Unless ye be a femi nastie
Then ithers ha’ tae see reet past ye
Oor see just as ye are wantin’
Shrill, misandric, crrrrood and rantin’.
“Dinni wan’ ma boody”, says ye
“ma personal’ty is ma giftie
To the world, ye shud be grateful”.
Unless we are she's allus hateful.
Nae wee timorous mousie, she
Her forked-tongue’s a lash, a cut, a flay
The hopes o’ men gang aft aglay
An’ shares a dram wi’ trust, away.
Oh Power we pray, take the harpy stock
And drown them all in some deep place
For monsters dank and damp and dread
Shud be in Loch Ness, not here instead,
Nor allus shoutin’ in ma face.
Ock aye.When in need of a drink to fill the soul
