I'll be honest, I'm kinda torn on this... I never understood why teachers were charged with sex-crimes for having sex with legal aged people. It never made sense.

But, on the other hand, when an older guy is with a younger girl - it's seen as him taking advantage... What's good for the goose should be good for the gander.

A couple of comments from the linked page.

Why are we so ficstated on the face that it is a 20 something female seducing the male, what about the male teachers seducing the female students. The only reason we dont hear about it is because Females are more intelligent and more mature that a teenage boy. Female students will be perfectly aware of what they are getting into, and yet we never hear about it, there are very few male teachers that are on that sex offenders list, because both parties know what they are doing.

Female student have the intelligence and the maturity, not to expose the relationship that they are having. Mlae students will brag and boast to thier friends about having sex. Do teenage girls do this?

What about the two underage children who both consent to sex yet the boy gets in trouble and slapped on the sex offenders register? What about the guy who decides he can't hold his bladder in anymore and nips behind a bush for a quick pee and gets slapped on the sex offenders register? If they can put those two examples on it then these teachers most definitely should be on it.

Also lets not forget the guy who got done for having sex with a bike the privacy of his own hotel room. Granted he probably wasn't right in the head but did he deserve to have his life ruined?

First of all, I am against creating sex criminals based on age if both are past puberty. Many other societies, past and present, have the age of consent set much lower.

However, in regards to teachers. Teachers are in a position of power over students and sexual favors should not determine who gets the grade. It is a conflict of interest.

The real double standard here is that no one cared about the ridiculous age of consent laws UNTIL women wanted underage boys.

It should be gender neutral. If a guy goes after a young girl / student that is clearly wrong. It should be the same for the reverse. And the remedies /sanctions / penalties / sentences should be comparable.

Constantly I read about females getting soft sentences, maybe 1/3, of what men get for the same crime. Or no sentence at all.

There are many men in jail for years for doing what my exe did to me in terms of violence. Meanwhile in Family Court she was NOT EVEN SCOLDED. I later took her to civil court where I prevailed. Sadly that Judge was the head of the other Judges and was openly baffled why Family Court did not help me. Poor guy was clueless about what happens all the time literally in the next room over, 20 feet away.

I agree that women should get the same punishment as men.

I am saying the law itself is flawed BUT I still believe that as long as the law is in place, men and women should be sentenced the same.

So yes, we disagree. Lowered age of consent is one of my extreme positions that I doubt many will agree with me on. Yet, we also agree that the law, in it's current state, should be applied equally.

Yes I fully agree the law should treat both male & female "figures in positions of authority" the same... If men are shagging high-school females and having their lives ruined for it - so too should women.

Our current society generally condones women in this position and marginalizes the student's opposition, for evidence see the quotes I gave in post #4.

The proplem I have with teachers of either gender getting jiggy with students is that High school is tough enough students really don't need that distraction as well.

Besides aren't these teachers supposed to be an example to students? What are they teaching these kids about responsibility when they flaunt the law?
