Edmonton cabbie sues passengers over false assault allegations

Edmonton cab driver Soner Yasa has filed a civil lawsuit against four young women who were passengers in his taxi in 2006. (CBC) A veteran Edmonton taxi driver is speaking publicly about a civil lawsuit he filed last year against four young women who falsely accused him of sexual assault after travelling in his car three years ago.
"I just want to give those girls [a] lesson," Soner Yasa told CBC News. "We're so vulnerable as a cab driver."
The lawsuit, filed by Yasa in Edmonton's Court of Queen's Bench in April 2008, seeks nearly $250,000 in damages to cover emotional and mental distress. His allegations have not been proven in court. One of the four young women filed a statement of defence last month in which she admits to getting into Yasa's taxi but denies the rest of his allegations.
In April 2006, Yasa picked up the young women, all 19, along Whyte Avenue, a well-known strip of bars and restaurants in Edmonton. The girls were intoxicated, and trouble began when one of them tried to light up a cigarette, Yasa said. It is illegal to smoke in an Edmonton taxi cab, and Yasa told her to put out the cigarette or risk a $500 fine.
Just then, the girls demanded Yasa stop the cab, and they got out, refusing to pay the $13 fare. Then they accused Yasa of sexually molesting them, Yasa said. They called their friends, and Yasa soon was surrounded by what he calls a "mob." Both Yasa and friends of the four girls called police.
However, what happened in the taxi was caught on a video camera Yasa had installed inside his car after a passenger tried to assault him a couple of years before. Based on the video evidence of what happened in his cab, Yasa was not charged.
But he worries about what might have happened to his job and his marriage without that evidence.
"What would she do?" Yasa said of his wife. "She would have probably told me, 'There's the door, and get out.'"
According to a police report filed on the incident, one of the young women contacted police the next morning to say they were very sorry for the trouble she and her friends caused and that they would not be pursuing any charges.
The constable collected the $13 fare from the girls to pass on to Yasa. He took the money but gave it back the next day, because he wanted police to pursue charges against the girls. That didn't happen, so he filed the lawsuit.
While Yasa filed the lawsuit last year, he said he is going public with his story now to make people aware of how vulnerable taxi drivers are while they are on the job.
None of the young women named in the lawsuit responded to attempts by CBC News to contact them on Thursday. On Friday, one of the lawyers for the women said his client would not be speaking to the media about the lawsuit.

Good for him.

If he had not had a camera installed and recording he woulld be in jail right now on trumped up sexual assault charges, after a biased court case which would have found him guilty.

Oh for a fighting fund to assist men like him take action against the liars and take every damned penny off them for the next 50 friggin' years.

this driver would have more success of defacing the moon by hurling shit at it than getting the feminit courts to find against these young feminit liars

after all the Family law Courts reward wimyn for all sorts of lies (DV molesting his kids etc)

I wouldn't be surprised if the company this driver operates from finds a way of dismissing his driving authority ( bad relations with the customers is the usual pretext)

i like how the police do absolutely nothing to the false accusers..this guy should file a complaint against the police also-for failing to do their jobs.(criminal offence)

These type of women are par for the course nowadays-little entitlement bitches who think they can do what-ever the fuck they please and get away with it.
I hope this guy wins his case,but i won't hold my breath.

Read the comments at the link. The world is steadily coming round to the realisation that women are not all sugar and spice, that they can tell wicked lies from the basest of motives, and that men deserve protection from them as much as vice versa. Oh, and the pathetic Edmonton police who swallowed the pussy pass come in for a well-deserved slating too.

Things are definitely looking up.

Just had another thought.

Edmonton. That's in the west of Canada, I believe. Certainly a long way from where I live, in the east of England. But remarkably, the young female nightlife in my neck of the woods appears to bear an extremely close resemblance to that in Edmonton. I guess that is what is meant by a common culture - although culture may not be quite the right word.

We too have our city and town centres taken over every Friday and Saturday night by huge swarms of semi-naked, booze-swilling, fag-smoking, fare-dodging, foul-mouthed, lying, painted tarts. And they too have learned that false accusations against males are a highly useful variation of their pussy passes, with the added bonus of being a right good laugh and with minimal risk of any adverse consequences. For themselves, that is, who are of course the only people who matter. They also hunt in packs where the worst behaviour of the worst of them becomes the standard that they egg one another on to adopt.

So if we get the same kind of crap women in places as far apart as Edmonton and East Anglia, we might ask where they are all coming from? Are there factories all over the western world dedicated to the production of shitty females?

Gosh, silly question. Of course there are. Except we just don't call them factories.

This is the part that concerns me most. A man should rightfully be able to expect his wife to come to his defense in a time like this. Not bail on him when the going gets tough.

I usually have to stick up for police, and now's no exception. I'm sure this is the train of thought that went through those officer's minds.

well then they should have let the judge do the dismissing because as it stands now-i think some heads are gonna roll at the lack of action takin against these girls by the police-if they would have done their job,they would have no worries or concerns about it--let the judge hang instead.

I'm glad that they had a video camera to catch these lying fools in the act. Who knows what would of happened if the cameras weren't there.

All those girls had to do was put out a damn cigarette. Now they are going to be paying way more than the 13 bucks they tried to get out of.

Since he is going public with this, it will bring the attention of how women falsely accuse men of sexual acts. When women do this, it makes real victims be afraid to come in the open.

I hope he wins and gets the justice he deserves.
