Edit functionality enabled

Many of the members have complained that they cannot edit their posts. I've tried to make it so two edit functions could exist, but alas this is beyond my abilities.

I know it's a relatively simple process, but PHP and VB ain't my forte.

Anyway, some of you may have also noted my signature has changed, and now include a little 'chipin' application... which shows a steady zero (at time of writing).

As you can perhaps imagine, running the site isn't free. It requires money, time, dedication and a lot of background work that most folks will never see happening - because that side of the site is for all intents and purposes invisible to them.

Nonetheless, the site continues to grow slowly but steadily. It has a very large database of posts, members, articles, profiles - hell, it's even got Tetris (mentioned specifically for Feckless' benefit) and other arcade games - all of it is completely FREE to members.

Believe it or not, the ads you see don't generate shit really, they bring in a little about every three to six months - and certainly not yet able to compensate the cossts of running a website this large.

So - many of the members have asked for edit functionality to be integrated. It has been granted (on a temp status to check it's validity).

Might some of you good folk consider a return investment to assist in the running costs? It's a peice of cake - just click the 'paypal' logo found in the lower left region of every page, or click the 'chipin' application in my signature.

We've got until January until the next installment is due. Will you be able to help keep this site afloat and alive? Or will you help with a small donation to the running costs? We need to pull together roughly $100 in the course of just over a month. If we can hit the $100 mark, we guarantee the site's existence for another three months.

Can this be acheived?

Can I use a US credit card to donate funds? I don't have a credit card, but was thinking I could buy a pre-paid Visa or pre-paid MasterCard and use it...would that work?

I think paypal takes debit - I'm not 100% sure.

Sorry, I misread - yes, paypal accepts credit cards. (for some reason, I thought you asked about debit cards, not credit cards - duh).

Certainly the ability to edit will be welcome by many members, but I hope folks use it responsibly.

Previously we've had a few crafty sorts editing their posts retrospectively after getting into one heated exchange or another. The offending or incriminating words/sentences are then re/edited to suit a persons position.

I know the vast majority of folk here are honest types, but for those others who are tempted - we can see what has been edited and will intervene accordingly if some similar dispute needs to be presided over.

Yep...it does. I got a pre-paid MasterCard, and it worked just fine. The only real "trick" to it was getting the darn thing registered before I could use it...you have to have Microsoft Windows Explorer to access the webpage that registers the card and I'm on a Mac...but no worries- I used someone else's Dell to get it taken care of. Donation made.

CD, yes - the reason you express is one of the reasons the edit function was disabled in the first instance. However, technology has moved forward and ill-motivated edits can be spotted a mile away.

Who, exactly, was historically found guilty of such disingenuous abuse in constructing their lies?
Is their IP address flagged to flash bright orange whenever it appears?

While I'm asking for the moon, is a [s]strike[/s] function a possibility, for enabling snarkier straw men, and inventing fantasized "code speak", when posting plagiarized cut-and-paste efforts, like on SOME other sites?
