Thread: Big Changes Ahead

Big Changes Ahead
In the immediate future, many changes will be occurring.
One of which will be a severe drop in the number of forums. Removed forums won't be deleted, they'll simply be made invisible and closed to new threads & replies. Old content will remain.
However, I want YOUR input on what should remain.
What is the priority in your eyes? And what can be dropped? What can AM do without?
No rantings about your favourite sub-forum goings please, they'll be deleted... I am seeking only responses that tell me what MUST stay and what should go... nothing more.
Thank you.
One of the changes I've made is to include a calendar which allows for the posting of the UK MEETing dates, times & location. The new calendar is located here: UK MEETINGS and the August meeting is set up. It will be revised with a more accurate location once we have the correct venue details to work with. It will also allow you to plan your trip by car.

Re: Big Changes Ahead
There needs to be an "activism" forum.
For the few of us that actually do write.

Re: Big Changes Ahead
We have one already.

Re: Big Changes Ahead
Geez..I have never noticed that before.
Maybe you can somehow make it somehow more noticeable?

Re: Big Changes Ahead
Indeed, and that is the very point of this thread... for poeple to say "We need this xyz-forum to be more visible and forum1,forum2 & forum3 let go of..."
So, the Activism forum needs more prominence ... what forums do you suggest are dropped?

Re: Big Changes Ahead
haha! the old activism area was created some years ago but so few folk took interest in activism that it was left to rot.. It has been suggested that AM is too destractive for the sort of folks who are more into the "direct activism" scene, and indeed such chaps are not keen forumites..
It would of course be great if AM could have a vibrant activist community, especially one that meets up to do what can only be discussed and done face to face..
But there may be another facility that can be used, for serious activists who are not keen forumites who just need the basic communications for the job.. With none of the destrations..
This is already in the wings as Marx is aware, waiting for use.. When the time is right and the chaps ready to work seriously..
I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with the way AM is, or has been, given that its a "broad church" forum that attracts a wide range of folks..
Of course I will often moan about the moderation etc.. But thats just my way..
Maybe there is a need to seperate newbies from the "cut and thrust" of the tough talking areas of the forum?
But thats a maybe..
I think AM is at "Saturation point" for the number of posts that can be processed and read and responded to for most folks who come in.. On a daily basis, there are maybe 25 newly active threads at least?
Less forums would make it much easier to know where to post.. It is really, practically impossible for even an experienced poster like me to know where to put a new thread..
It is not a case of "what should go"..
More a case of "what must stay"..
Are so many forum headers really needed?I am going outside, I may be some time..

Re: Big Changes Ahead
I used to think the "dating love and sex" area was a really super idea..
Then I realised that practically everything I posted in there would lead to arguments and infractions!
So, why do we need an area like that on a predominantly celibate mens forum?

Re: Big Changes Ahead
Id say create 4 or 5 key areas for posts to be made, 4 or 5 major headers.. Then perhaps the admins could move em around?
Just make it easy for folk who want to initiate new threads..I am going outside, I may be some time..

Re: Big Changes Ahead
I would say mra book's could go into the "activism" forum.
Make it open so people can throw up even more books.
I have read a few good books and would have like to have posted them there.
I can't though,not sure why it is a closed topic to member's?

Re: Big Changes Ahead
The ones I feel should stay:
Off topic stuff
Chit chat (main)
Divorce
Father/children
Dating, love and sex
[General section]
I think that covers all the topics. Our society puts a premium on beauty; common in declining cultures.

Re: Big Changes Ahead
I think MRA-Youtube should stay or find a way for users to upload videos. I think videos are a great way to pass on information, educate others and come up with ideas on how to tackle the issues.

Re: Big Changes Ahead
So no one else has much to say about what else we should definitely keep?

Re: Big Changes Ahead
I am not sure how often you hear this, Marx, but good job. There is obviously always room for improvement but you've put a lot of work into this discussion board and it shows. Keep up your good work and always make sure to take time for yourself and your needs when you can. With that being said, I'd suggest that you keep the chat since it's one of the quickest and most efficient ways of staying in touch with fellow members here on AM and, as of late, that is one of my main reasons for logging in.
When I do this, and I know I will, it will be comparable to the lame learning to walk, the blind being enabled to see and the suffocated breathing again. The sky isn't the limit; there are no limits.

I'd like to keep the IM tool, if at all possible?
