Just when you thought Planned Parenthood couldn't sink any lower, the organization sends an email to supporters that uses Mother's Day as a rallying cry for abortion rights. PP president Cecile Richards wrote about how proud she is to carry on her mom's legacy of "defending women's rights" but says there's one group standing in her way--FRC. In her words, "On Wednesday, the extreme right-wing Family Research Council will deliver petitions to the White House with the express goal of totally defunding 'groups like Planned Parenthood.' What's worse... the Bush administration... will be inside to receive them with open arms." Richards, who has the audacity to invoke the "legacy of our mothers [and]... daughters" as reason to fight us, is feeling the heat of our campaign. The email shows her significant concern over your participation in the effort to defund Planned Parenthood's abortion operations. Richards and her staff know that the charges against their organization are not o nly mounting but also motivating Congress to reconsider its annual $305 million investment. Allegations of fraud, reports of statutory rape cover-ups, the documented racism of several state branches, and clinical deficiencies are pushing leaders' support for Planned Parenthood to the brink. If our efforts are successful, your hard-earned tax dollars will no longer line the pockets of America's largest abortion trafficker. FRC is also leading the charge to encourage the White House to change the nation's Title X regulations. If President Bush agrees, U.S. funds would no longer be used to promote and facilitate abortion. Instead, federally-supported "family planning" clinics would be completely separated from abortion services. Perhaps then Richards would stop and reflect on what Mother's Day truly means to the millions of would-be moms who, because of her clinics, will never hold the child whose life ended inside the clinic walls.
