Fathers rights (RFFJ) activist held on remand now released http://news.realfathersforjustice.org/ ============== A FATHERS' rights campaigner who spent more than two days on the top of the Tyne Bridge today denied being a danger to passing motorists. Simon Anderton, 49, appeared before Newcastle Magistrates Court charged with causing a danger to road users. Anderton, accompanied by a security guard, appeared from the cells wearing a purple The Real Fathers For Justice T-shirt to face District Judge Stephen Earl. advertisement Members of his family and colleagues from the protest group Real Fathers for Justice sat in the public gallery. Anderton, of Meldon Terrace, Heaton, Newcastle, waved several times to supporters from the dock during the brief hearing. He pleaded not guilty to the single charge and elected to be tried by a jury before Newcastle Crown Court. ============================================== Simon Anderton was bailed after a judge in chambers hearing at Newcastle Market Street courts at 10am yesterday morning. 6 hours later Simon was released from Holme House prison, his bail restrictions include not to climb any bridges or structures or hang a banner hitherto and a 7pm-7am curfew. Activist Simon said the following after release "I would like to thank the geordie public for the support they sent from the ground while I was on the bridge" "The cars and lorries passing underneath were constantly sounding their horns in support, people were shouting my name and tying purple ribbons of support on the Quayside, kids were waving and shouting from outside the Sage music centre" "The encouragement really spurred me on, my only regret is not staying up there longer due to my running out of water and supplies" "I've hardly slept for over a week and am now going to rest for a day before reading the letters and messages of support that have come in through the website" "My next hearing is on Friday and I look forward to meeting and personally thanking supporters then" Simon's hearing is at Newcastle magistrates at 2.45pm on Friday 27th June

Yes. Yes. I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it. But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up. I am outnumbered. But... YOU don't just make a difference, you make THE difference. ![]()

Careful now, percy... you'll pop a hernia at this rate! But seriously, it is awesome to see that support for fathers as real people is growing, even with schools taking to banning father's day and the like.

Respect to the gent getting out and doing something. Well done. This sort of action gets some attention, but I have to say that it does not really do anything to really dent the machine and inconvieniences those who partake in the actions more than the folk we are campaigning against. Being imprisoned is not a good thing and hardly sends an encouraging message out to others who would like to partake in a similar way. From what I have noticed, many men who have done similar stunts have now stopped doing them and they dont seem to have a queue behind them wanting to follow in their footsteps.. Its just my view, but I think direct actions are usually best directed at those who directely cause the problems. Though I admit it would be good to see 1000 men doing similar stunts all at the same time!!
