Roseville Police say she lit her boyfriend on fire and chased him with a butcher knife in front of their two children, trying to get him to leave.





But Sheila Rena Golly, 40, told a different story in 39th District Court today, just before she was arraigned on two felony assault charges stemming from the incident Sunday in their Roseville apartment.

“He set himself on fire and blamed me,” Golly said, her hands cuffed, as she waited for Judge Catherine B. Steenland. Golly said she was doing her 6-year-old daughter’s hair and getting ready to take off her fake nails when her 44-year-old boyfriend was burned. “I was lighting a cigarette when he combusted.”

Police, however, say Golly doused him with nail polish remover, threw a cigarette at him and lit him on fire with a lighter in their Huntington Manor apartment on Pinehurst, near Gratiot and Frahzo, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
