Woman 'left husband blind and deaf after she tried to poison him with anti-freeze to clear her debts'

A wife tried to kill her husband by poisoning him with anti-freeze in an attempt to clear her debts, a court heard yesterday.

After he had been taken to hospital with severe vomiting, 28-year-old Kate Knight confided in a neighbour: "It's worked - nothing has shown up on the biopsy."

Factory worker Lee Knight, 37, is now deaf, blind, brain-damaged, cannot speak and needs kidney dialysis.

William Davis QC, prosecuting, said Knight considered poisoning her husband, who worked for JCB in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, with Ecstasy or giving him an iron overdose.

But she chose anti-freeze after discovering on the internet how lethal it can be in small doses.

Mr Davis told the jury at Stafford Crown Court that Knight had run up "considerable debt".
He said Knight had told neighbour Sarah Johnson that JCB would pay out on his death.

The Knights lived in Meir Hay, Stoke-on-Trent, with their son, now aged seven.

The court heard that sometime in early in 2005 Knight asked Mrs Johnson where she could obtain a lot of Ecstasy pills.

Mr Davis said: "She was present when Mrs Knight made a telephone call to someone who was prepared to supply a number of tablets.

"Within a day or so of that conversation, Knight texted her friend to the effect that Lee had got a rash on his face and was not feeling well."
Mr Davis said Mrs Johnson felt uncomfortable and replied that she wanted nothing to do with it.

But she later accompanied Knight to a chemist's after bumping into her in the street.

Knight quizzed the pharmacist about the effects of iron preparations.

When Mrs Johnson asked why, Knight replied: "I thought you didn't want to know."

Mr Davis said: "She made clear she still had in mind to get rid of her husband and made specific reference that JCB would pay out a substantial sum to any dependent in the event of his death."

The following month, Mr Davis said, Knight again confided in Mrs Johnson, showing her a screw-top bottle of wine and a container of anti-freeze.

She told Mrs Johnson she had researched online and discovered that a small dose would cause kidney failure and a heart attack.

On April 6, 2005 Mr Knight began vomiting violently and was admitted to hospital where he was diagnosed with renal failure.

He developed neurological problems, causing loss of sight and hearingand suffered massive internal bleeding.
The court heard that it was only by expert intervention that he survived.

Mr Davis added: "In the course of all that, Knight spoke to Sarah Johnson and said to her, 'It's worked, nothing has shown up on the biopsy'."

When Knight, now of Moreton, Wirral, was arrested the following month, police discovered a litre bottle of Tesco anti-freeze containing 840ml of the fluid.

An examination of her computer showed she had used the internet to carry out research into the side effects of Ecstasy and anti-freeze poisoning.

In one Google search, Knight asked: "Ecstasy - how fatal can eight pills be?"

    The trial continues.
If she did this, she is one evil fucking bitch.
Let's see what kind of 'punishment' she gets....

She will get at least 25 years of counselling. Failing like that has got to be her husband's fault. Let us know what happens. Maj. Tom.

No doubt it was her husband's fault for forcing her against her will to dose him with the poison. I mean, let's be realistic here, what woman is ever really considered to be totally in control of her own free will and thus responsible for her actions? In circumstances such as this when the victim is male they surely become poor ickle diddums so hard doe by do they not?

It comes as no surprise to me at all that this particular storyline has been ignored by the Daily Telegraph. The genders are in the wrong place. Reverse them and it would have been emblazoned all over this sexist, highly feminist influenced rag's pages.

Same old bloody thing isn't it?
Woman gets to run up huge debts, expects a man to bail her out, if he can't, he must pay in some other way.
Did the thought of getting a job ever cross her mind?, no, it would be too hard, wouldn't it.

I feel really sorry for the guy that has been severely handicapped by this poisoning, anti-freeze is made up of glycerine and a few other nasty things.

The fact that this woman caused this crime to happen, with full intent to kill him, makes me want to cry "Bring back the Electric Chair" and feed it with half voltage, so the suffering is lengthened.

I can't get over how someone has been treated so nastily, to serve as a means of paying another persons bills, this has to be the absolute bottom of any moralistic barrel.

I hope she rots in prison with no parole, people like this absolutely sicken me to the core.

This sort of thing is what happens when people who are too dumb, fuck about with chemistry and pharmaceutical things, this woman was too stupid to work things out for herself, so she goes to that great place of knowledge, the Internet.

    {Way off topic, but, cats like the taste of anti-freeze, keep them away from it, it will kill them at the first few licks.}

The most offensive thing you can do to a feminist is treat her with FULL equality.
Wife : "I dreamt they were auctioning off dicks. The big ones went for ten dollars and the thick ones went for twenty dollars."
Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

    PLEASE play the video...

'She claimed she was in a violent marriage... the truth was she was in heavy debt'

I dont' understand... how come she didn't get away with it? Everyone knows when a woman claims to be in a violent situation, they are free of all responsibility for their actions. Just has failed this poor, innocent womyn.
