Woman charged with DUI in crash that killed boy | | Quote:
A woman has been charged with drunken driving after the sport-utility vehicle she was driving hit an 8-year-old boy Monday night on the South Side. The boy died a short time later.
Theresa Alexander, of the 6900 block of South Stewart Avenue, was charged with DUI, negligent driving and operating a vehicle without insurance, according to a police News Affairs release.
Alexander is scheduled to appear in traffic court, May 15, the release said.
Tishaun Fields, 8, of the 1770 block of West 66th Street, was struck by a vehicle at the 5600 block of South Princeton Avenue. He was pronounced dead at University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital at 10:23 p.m. Monday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Police News Affairs Officer David Banks said the child was struck by a gray SUV between 9:30 and 10 p.m.
The accident was initially a hit-and-run, but "the driver came back to the scene shortly afterwards," Banks said.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is probing the crash.
