AKITA -- Police on Tuesday arrested a 29-year-old woman for allegedly steering the car driven by her mother into the path of a truck, leading to the mother's death.
Police believe that Tomomi Ishida, from Noshiro, Akita Prefecture, attempted to kill herself and her mother in Oga, Akita Prefecture, on March 22.
Their car veered into an opposite lane and crashed into a truck, killing the 54-year-old mother. The driver of the truck injured his right leg. Ishida stands accused of murder and attempted murder. She has admitted to the allegations.
After a witness said that the car veered abruptly, officers questioned Ishida.
Ishida had been undergoing psychiatric treatment. Police decided to arrest her after they determined that she was mentally fit to stand trial and because they believe she can be held criminally responsible for the case. (Mainichi)
