Woman, 70, arrested after girl attacked | | Quote:
A 70-year-old woman was arrested and sectioned after an attack on a young girl involving a bladed weapon in south-west London.
The girl, 11, was taken to hospital with cuts to her head and hand after the attack in Feltham on Thursday afternoon.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers from Hounslow were called at about 3.40pm to reports of an assault in Hatton Road.
The girl was allegedly approached by a 70-year-old woman who asked her for the time and then subjected her to an unprovoked attack.
The elderly woman was arrested at the scene and later sectioned under the Mental Health Act. She remains at a west London hospital pending further inquiries and assessments.
Police said the girl is in hospital in a stable condition and her injuries are not life-threatening.
Detective Sergeant Aine Collins, leading the investigation, said: "We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen this incident.
"Hatton Road is a busy street and at this time of day there would have been many people in the area, including people collecting their children from the local school.
"I would urge anyone to come forward with any information, no matter how small it may seem, to help us with this investigation."
Witnesses are urged to contact Hounslow CID on 020 8247 6160 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
