Three Babies Found Dead in Freezer in Germany, Mother Arrested

OLPE, Germany — German police arrested the mother of three infants whose bodies were found stuffed into a basement freezer, a prosecutor's spokesman said Monday.
Police made the grisly find Sunday night in the town of Wenden, near Olpe, in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia, after receiving a tip from one of the woman's three grown children, officials said.
The three infants are believed to have been born alive, said Johannes Daheim, spokesman for prosecutors investigating the case. Authorities were awaiting autopsy results to determine for sure how they died, he said.
The 44-year-old woman, who name was not released, was taken into custody on suspicion that she killed the children.
The woman, her 47-year-old husband, and three grown children — two sons, aged 18 and 22, and a 24-year-old daughter — have lived for years in the town.
"I've been mayor for 14 years, and this is definitely the worst day I've seen," said Peter Brueser. "We will need a long time here to work through this."
There have been a number of similar cases in Germany.

In February, police were called to a home in northern Germany where a dead infant was discovered in the cellar.
In January, a 28-year-old German woman was charged with manslaughter after the remains of three babies were discovered in her house and the home of a relative. That woman has denied killing the three babies.
Another woman was convicted of manslaughter in 2006 for killing eight of her newborn babies and burying them in flower pots and a fish tank in the garden of her parents' home near the German-Polish border.

That's sick.

What I'd like to know is how you all feel about this: that guy from Austria (who locked his daughter up for 24 years in the basement and fathered seven kids with her)...he has yet to be charged with any crime and it looks like his lawyers are going for the insanity defense. I think it's safe to assume he is nuts....and it'll be interesting to see how this story plays out.

As for the woman who killed her babies, I'm sure she's not exactly sane, either. I wonder what will happen with this case?

What's bugging me (after reading the article) is that she is that the charge she faces is manslaughter. Should be murder.

Both of these 2 persons ( and many others in this world too) are more or less a case for a mental hospital.

This woman cannot be 'normal' and I ask myself, who is the father - seems he did not know about 3 pregnancies? A crazy case and not the first one like that in Germany/Austria...

The question is, are these people totally mentally sick, not fitting for jail? Or are they ' a bit' crazy, but still responsible for what they did?

In these 2 cases, I think, they are still responsible for their wrongdoings...and should serve jail-sentences.

Although the guy in Aussie land isn't the normal thing to discuss on this board, for reasons stated previously (e.g. "woman = victim is already everywhere we look) I am personally amazed and disgusted by that guy. I'm assuming Mikeeusa would be proud of him. Maybe he is crazy, but it is even more disheartening that the woman is now said to have only days to live ( I didn't catch why, I just read the headline).
