Spotlight On Male Victims Of Domestic Abuse

    From Sky News:

Spotlight On Male Victims Of Domestic Abuse

Those who suffer abuse are now being urged to seek help as part of a nationwide awareness week.

Ian McNicholl told Sky News he had been trapped in a terrifying violent relationship.

He described how his former partner, Michelle Williamson, squirted bleach in his eyes, forced lit cigarettes up his nose and burnt his arms with a hot iron.

She also smashed his shoulder with a hammer with such ferocity that the handle snapped.

"It gets worse without you realising," he explained.

"You can't seem to think for yourself or separate fact from fiction. You just want to keep her happy by complying and keeping her happy.

"As bizarre as it sounds, I still loved her."

As Mr McNicholl found himself on the brink of committing suicide, a concerned neighbour alerted the police and his 10-month ordeal came to an end.

In April 2009, Williamson was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court to serve a total of 18 years in prison.

Mr McNicholl is now slowly rebuilding his life and is about to have reconstructive surgery on his fractured eye sockets.

He told Sky News: "The fear of repercussions certainly stops people from reporting things.

"At one stage I was walking into the same newsagent with a new black eye or injury every day. Nobody said or did anything."

A new TV advert will be part of a week-long awareness campaign.

Dr Steve Connor from the National Centre for Domestic Violence said: "As a man, it can be difficult to admit that you are being abused.

"As the advert points out, a man might feel ashamed, embarrassed or worried that he may be considered less of a man by speaking out against his abuser."

    Thanks for this Frosty,

I'm also glad that the woman got what she deserved, at least she will be away from this guy and society until such time that she has time to think about what she has done.

I have worked with guys like this before at the Mens Centre, guys that are covered with bruises and cigarette burns, yet they are in denial of there being a problem.
It really hit home when one of our more junior Firemen was being beaten up at home, we were getting changed after a large fire call and he had bruises all over his upper body.
I took him aside (as any Senior Officer should) and asked him what was going on, he intimated to me that his wife didn't like him turning out to fire calls and used to punch the crap out of him when he got home.
I called the cops 3 days later and she was sent to prison for 7 years, with no parole, on the face of pics I took of Justin's mid-section.

Men need to stand up if they are being abused, make a nuisance of yourself to the police, they would sooner investigate an abuse claim rather than a murder.
Things have to change, and don't get me wrong, they will, as long as men keep the impetus up, if you are being abused at home, by all means tell someone about it, don't just bottle it up inside.

I'm curious, if you don't mind telling, what was his reaction to her being taken away by the police? Did he resent you at first for calling? When and what did it take for him to realize that what she was doing was wrong?

I'm glad this woman got the time she did. It sounds like she was brainwashed by the feminist. According to him, she justified her beatings because he didn't compliment her enough and instigate intimacy and didn't make her feel attractive. According to the feminists, he was the initial abuser.

This is one of several things (incarcerating false rape accusers being another example) in which the U.K. is progressing much faster than the U.S. and other countries as far as men's rights are concerned. The BBC is actually reporting on this and the authorities are actually throwing these women in jail for serious time.
Had it been here in the U.S. he would likely have been the one to be arrested and the abuse would have continued against him or some other victim that she would have harvested somewhere from her environment. No joke, that is likely what would have happened.
Do not ever suppose that a small group of people can never change the world. INDEED it is the only thing that ever has.
