A Hamilton mother who bashed her 16-year-old daughter's boyfriend has been sentenced to 300 hours' community work.

Claire Shiane Kerridge, 37, punched the 20-year-old man in the face eight times until he choked on his own blood and blacked out.
Kerridge was furious her 16-year-old daughter was seeing an older man.
The facts were heard in the Hamilton District Court yesterday as Kerridge was sentenced on one charge of assault.


Kerridge told police she attacked the man "because of what he had done to her and her family".
Kerridge and an associate went to the man's address on May 15, where she set upon him.


In a victim impact statement, the man said he was worried Kerridge and her associate were still looking for him.
He felt threatened because of Kerridge's past association with gang members.


Judge Harland said it appeared Kerridge's daughter was still in a relationship with the victim.


Judge Harland sentenced Kerridge to 300 hours' community work, ordered her to pay $500 emotional harm reparation, and gave her a final warning.
