Mother admits to throwing crying baby

A mother accused of murdering her six-month-old daughter has admitted she threw her crying baby across a bedroom, then lied to police about how the infant received her fatal injuries.
Sarah Michelle Peters, 21, has pleaded not guilty in the South Australian Supreme Court to murdering her baby, Crystal, who died from severe bleeding to the brain on August 14 last year.
A post-mortem found the child had a broken left arm, head fractures and brain haemorrhages when she died.
In tearful testimony, Peters said her daughter started to cry and scream as she was preparing her for a bath at their home at Seaford in Adelaide's south.




Peters said the screams quickly became "piercing" and she picked up the child, who was lying face down on a bed, by one hand - breaking her arm - before throwing her across the bed.
"I couldn't cope. I just lost control," Peters told the court.
"I started to smack her ... then I lifted her up by one arm and picked her up and threw her on the bed, but she missed.
"She skidded across the side of the bed and landed on the floor.
"I heard a thud so I moved over and picked her up and she wasn't breathing ... wasn't moving.



"I was pleading, screaming with her to breathe, so I started shaking her."
Peters said she began mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, then ran next door with the child to call for an ambulance, believing her phone was disconnected, but no-one was home.
She returned home and successfully phoned for an ambulance but told paramedics the child had choked on vomit.
The court heard that when questioned by police, Peters said the baby had fallen off the bed.

However, her statement changed two weeks later when she told police Crystal had hit her head on a change table during a fit.
Asked by her lawyer, Stephen Apps, why she did not tell the truth, Peters replied: "I was scared and angry at myself, ashamed at what I had done."
Under cross examination by prosecutor Kevin Tavener, Peters said she was angry, irritable and anxious the day the baby died because she believed her husband had cut off the phone and had left her home alone to meet an ex-girlfriend.

OMG, A baby... Regardless of the parent's gender, that is a tear-jerking story... I had days when my youngest would squeal so bad, it was peircing and I felt like I was losing control (of course, that was just more reason for my interfering mothwhore outlaw to attack me with rather than do anything constructive - like helping). I can see how the pressure built up to a point, but I always walked away - I'd rather leave her screaming in another room for 5 minutes than do anything like that. Walking away was a safety valve.
I'm not excusing the mother's behaviour - she should have walked, but I can see how it can make you feel so bad, and a baby's squealing CAN physically hurt the ears - I know, I used to 'feel' the squeals in my jawline, that's how powerful they were, so much they could vibrate the bones in my head.

At least this little angel is back with the Grand Father (not Grandfather, but Grand Father) of all so will be safe & loved eternally.

Every time I read something like that, I get up and give my little boy a big hug.

I'd give him one now but he's in kindergarten.

We all know how this is going to turn out... {It might well have 'turned out' by the time I post this}

She will claim that she did it because of... Post-natal depression, PMS, childhood abuse, "afraid", blame a man, cry in the courtroom until the judge lets her go, excessive women's rights make sure she walks free and/or the judge happens to be feminist... and she'll walk free. No charges. No prison sentence, no probation, no parenting course, no fine. Nothing. Maybe even a man who wasn't there at the time will go to prison.

I feel like I've missed something ...

I had post-natal depression, but there was NO WAY I EVER wanted to harm my baby! I consider myself to be pretty high-strung at times, but I managed to keep my cool around my son when he was a baby. He'll be six in a few weeks...there have been times when I've REALLY been upset with him, I just walk out of the room or have his father deal with him, since he has a cooler head than I.

As long as you let these crazy women use the depression excuse, you're going to see more of this kind of craziness--giving them a free pass.

As far as Andrea Yates, the Texas mother who drowned her five children in the bathtub, she should have gotten the death penalty. Same with Susan Smith, who let her car containing her two toddlers roll into a lake in South Carolina. Same with Diane Downs, who shot her three children and wound up killing one of them back in, I think, 1984.
