SCOTT COUNTY (WATE) -- A judge entered a plea of not guilty Monday for the woman accused of fatally shooting her domestic partner at their home in Scott County this weekend.
Laura Bowling, 38, is being held at the Scott County Jail on a $500,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.
Bowling is charged with first degree murder in the shooting of Chastity Carson Friday night. The victim's family says Bowling was the mother of Carson's ex-boyfriend.
Carson leaves behind a four-year-old boy, Dakota. He was staying with relatives when the crime took place.
Before her court appearance, Bowling told 6 News the shooting "wasn't about" problems between them. "I was sick for a couple of days before that. I even went to the doctor."
When asked if that's why she shot Carson, Bowling said, "I don't remember. It's all a fog to me. I had a mental breakdown. I feel like I am losing my mind now."
Bowling went on to say she suffers from a seizure disorder. In court, she appeared to have difficulty speaking and standing before the judge.
Family members of both the victim and the suspect in the investigation are shocked. Each is offering a different perspective on the women involved and the bond they shared.
Laura Bowling's family wants to set the record straight. They tell 6 News the women were domestic partners.
Carson's father would not confirm nor deny those claims. He had no comment.
"They were a couple not officially married but had their own ceremonial thing and claimed to be married," says Emma Russ, Bowling's sister.
Russ says everybody knew they were together, but their families did not condone or address it.
Bowling's family members say the two broke up eight months ago and Chastity moved to Kentucky. They recently got back together.
The court affidavit says the two had been arguing. Bowling left the room and grabbed a .357 revolver, came back and shot Carson five times, including once in the head. She was pronounced dead at Scott County Hospital.
The affidavit also says Bowling admitted to officers that she shot Chastity.
"I just want justice for my little girl," says Carson's father, Roland Carson. "She was a loveable, beautiful, bright kid, very smart, loved her baby, had a lot of goals in life."
Bowling's family says she has suffered from seizures for years. Just last week, a doctor told her he thought she had a brain tumor.
"Her doctor believed she has a brain tumor. She found that out Friday. Because she couldn't pay hospital bill, she never had the test done," Russ says.
Bowling appeared to suffer a seizure during Monday's arraignment.
The Carson family name is very prominent in Scott County, with several Carsons elected to public office, including sheriff.
The Bowling family fears Laura can't get a fair trial in Scott County. The sheriff's department has moved Bowling to a different county for her own safety.
6 News has learned this isn't Bowling's first run-in with the law. According to the Scott County sheriff, in 2003 she was booked twice. The first time was for possession of a schedule four drug and being armed while committing a felony.
The second booking was for trafficking a schedule six drug and simple possession of marijuana.
Bowling's family says it appears she went all weekend without her medication which could explain the seizure in court.
Scott County Sheriff Anthony Lay says Bowling never told officers about her medical needs. The jail is working to make sure she gets her medication.
Bowling's siblings say they know this tragedy can't be undone but hope both families can find healing.

The victim was apparently 21 years old. The age wasn't mentioned in some stories. Here's a video where the lesbo killer acts crazy.
