The guy doesn't want to argue with them from what I can tell, but they apparently want someone to beat up, and he's it.

Boys or girls - that's just cowardice.

Boys or girls, given such overwhelming odds a man has the right to defend himself.

For anyone ever confronted with such a eventuality, and an attack seems imminent, isolate the nearest person and use whatever means to inflict maximum damage on that person in the quickest time, headbutt, strike to the throat, punch/elbow to the face, strike to groin, knee to stomach, or/and also, incorporate anything you have on you're person into the attack (tin of beans, mobile phone, a belt, a pen etc).

The objective is to stun the other prospective attackers into rethinking their original intent. So, the more absolutely vicious, brutal and bloody you can make that 'preemptive' attack, the better. This then gives you time to make a hasty retreat, or if you're up for it, proceed to the next attacker, and repeat.

I realize some people are more capable than others given the same situation, the point is despite the odds, never mentally consign yourself to defeat. Remain as composed as you can be throughout. And remember, the more you're hitting them, the less their going to be hitting you. Simple mathmatics.

Given these increasingly violent times, I'd thoroughly recommend people taking up a martial art. It's great physical exercise, develops mental strength, instills personal confidence, as well as providing a deterrent. That said, what you learn is only to be used in self defense. The above story is a prime example of this skill learned, being justified in it's use.
